Thought it would be good to post it in “General”. What about deleting a virus with AVAST sucessfully while having its remnants like in the registry or the MBR. Isn’t it like having a gun without the soldier, I mean, by itself, the gun can’t shoot!
So should we worry about those cleanings that are not 100% on a machine?

If it would depend on me, I would like Avast Team to concentrate in other things, not in “remnants”.
There are limited resources. With them, Avast Software needs to develop and keep tracking down new malware.
About the MBR, either it works or it doesn’t. There are enough tools to repair MBRs, and that is something that can’t be done automatically by avast. There are too many options for a valid MBR, and avast is not able to know what is supposed to be there. Since there are already many tools to back up the MBR, and replace it again (when the user decides or even automatically), there is no point in giving avast such heavy responsibility of performing that action automatically.
In the case of the registry, almost every program that you install will leave you remnants when uninstalled, and in most cases your OS keeps working correctly. A virus leaving remnants in the registry is no different. Once neutralized by avast, most malware’s remnants can be cleaned up by other tools.
I can think of other areas that can be considered as potential places where potential leftovers / remnants could still reside. I’d prefere Avast Software concentrating in key issues that no other tool can do, specially around the resident protection, more than in the “cleaning”.
