I know this problem won’t get read and people won’t care. But whatever, I need to vent.
After Avast kept on nagging me to upgrade to V7 I finally said alright and went ahead. I let it do its thing in the background and then after it was done it told me to restart. I said no thanks buddy. Because I still had many tabs open on Chrome. So after I was done browsing I restarted my computer.
Came back a bit later and then tried to get on Chrome, aww snap!
After an hour or so of research I found something on chromes help website that says to unblock it from firewalls and antivirus programs. I then thought! Duhh antivirus, its the only program that changed when I restarted the computer so it has to be linked to that, so I tried finding settings on Avast for chrome. And didn’t get very far.
So then I started googling “Avast chrome crash” “Aw snap Avast chrome crash” among other searches. And found some forums here and there with people in the same scenario. And also a bunch of people saying that they had to uninstall chrome and they lost everything.
This got me really paranoid because I have a lot of information on my chrome browser and its the only browser I use, so over time I’ve acquired a lot of bookmarks/extensions etc…
So I tried researching ways to fix it and everything kept leading me down to un-installing and re-installing chrome. I then made copies of my chrome data and stored them in a folder just in case.
I then un-installed Avast hoping that might do something… It didn’t… So last resort I uninstalled/reinstalled Chrome and opened it up and thankfully most of my information was still there.
I did lose bookmarks from the last couple months, all my extensions, apps and themes. But thankfully, my browsing and download history as well as most of my bookmarks were still intact.
I was extremely frustrated, paranoid and a bit panicked because of this situation. I don’t think I will be coming back to Avast any time soon. I wasted 4 stressful hours on this issue. And I don’t want it to happen again, I don’t think I can trust Avast. AVG here I come.
