Goodbye Avast - Aw Snap!

I know this problem won’t get read and people won’t care. But whatever, I need to vent.

After Avast kept on nagging me to upgrade to V7 I finally said alright and went ahead. I let it do its thing in the background and then after it was done it told me to restart. I said no thanks buddy. Because I still had many tabs open on Chrome. So after I was done browsing I restarted my computer.

Came back a bit later and then tried to get on Chrome, aww snap!

After an hour or so of research I found something on chromes help website that says to unblock it from firewalls and antivirus programs. I then thought! Duhh antivirus, its the only program that changed when I restarted the computer so it has to be linked to that, so I tried finding settings on Avast for chrome. And didn’t get very far.

So then I started googling “Avast chrome crash” “Aw snap Avast chrome crash” among other searches. And found some forums here and there with people in the same scenario. And also a bunch of people saying that they had to uninstall chrome and they lost everything.

This got me really paranoid because I have a lot of information on my chrome browser and its the only browser I use, so over time I’ve acquired a lot of bookmarks/extensions etc…

So I tried researching ways to fix it and everything kept leading me down to un-installing and re-installing chrome. I then made copies of my chrome data and stored them in a folder just in case.

I then un-installed Avast hoping that might do something… It didn’t… So last resort I uninstalled/reinstalled Chrome and opened it up and thankfully most of my information was still there.

I did lose bookmarks from the last couple months, all my extensions, apps and themes. But thankfully, my browsing and download history as well as most of my bookmarks were still intact.

I was extremely frustrated, paranoid and a bit panicked because of this situation. I don’t think I will be coming back to Avast any time soon. I wasted 4 stressful hours on this issue. And I don’t want it to happen again, I don’t think I can trust Avast. AVG here I come.

Good Luck with that!
AVG is far from perfect :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi ^^

Well, one again, if people read carefully on how do perform good installation, it should be never be a problem :o

Always do a full install, when there’s such bug like before, and do like it’s written on the subject to avoid Chrome installed or other bug.

Don’t sure that AVG is better…

And if complain to loose configuration wallpaper and other thing from navigator, all can be saved safely and imported one again to have same configuration just before problem…

Always people want all without doing minimum effort ::slight_smile:

Computing and software are boring something, and we must spend a lot of time to working fine.

It’s only to this cost that’s working fine, not like speed pizza in 30’ chrono ;D

Watch out for those AVG toolbars and how they embed in your machine. Yes, you had a frustrated time, and we are reading your thread, but if people read before clicking on an installation, many of these problems can be avoided. We hope you will return to Avast after may AVG users have, and we wish you much luck.

I’d be careful how you gloat, if memory serves correctly, avast used a 3rd party for customer support, that was found to be blatantly ripping off avast customers when they tried to get help. People and glass houses…

AMD Athlon 3000+ 2.17GHz, 1.50Gb ram, XP3 sp3, AVG 2012 free, Mbam free, SaS free, Winpatrol

No glass…no houses. Just a thought ???

If you need assistance please come here before jumping to conclusions. We are more than willing to help. If there is a bug avast can and will try to fix it. It sounds more like there is something about your system that is causing the problem. I updated from 6.0.xxx to 7.0.xxx with no issues concerning Chrome. If you could provide more info about your system we could probably figure it out.

As far as third party support aka iYogi https://blog.avast.com/2012/03/15/iyogi-support-service-removed/ 8)

This might fall on deaf ears if the OP has jumped ship before we could help.
After using AVG the OP will be back…
