My computer recently crashed and a friend fixed it for me. She had to put in a new HD. She then loaded MS professional and McAfee Virus Scan. I had no problems other than being hijacked when I used Google. Oh and My Adobe flash kept crashing. Adobe said it was the McAfee so I un-installed it and installed AVG. I know, not bright. It was my friend suggestion. That’s when flash crashed all the time. I could open any search engine at all and Firefox would not even load. So naturally I uninstalled that. Load Microsoft Essentials. Son told me about Avast. Uninstalled MSE. bought and loaded Avast. But search engines will still not load, and flash doesn’t crash as often, but still does. I’ve run the Virus scans and they found nothing. Downloaded a Malware program. It found 1 registry key. Why can’t avast find my, what has to be virus? Please help? Thanks!!!
so how many AV programs have you installed now ?
you should only have one, and run removal tools to remove any leftovers from those uninstalled
removal tools can be found here, run and reboot http://thewebatom.net/uninstallers/security-software/
Downloaded a Malware program.and what program is that ?
Malwarebytes Corp.
I should have only Avast.
I ran the uninstaller for AVG that you recommended.
Not sure which McAfee one to use.
you can have avast and malwarebytes
was it updated when you scanned ?
if you still have problems

( post the logs HERE and not in the guide )
To avoid using multiple post with copy and paste you have to attach the log`s
Lower left corner: Additional Options > Attach ( Malwarebytes log / OTS log ) save OTS log as ANSI
Essexboy will look at the logs when posted…
I ran the OTS, and I have a file on notepad.
But I do not see a save as ANSI in the lower left
attach and let us see
won’t let me post. too large. how do you save it as ansi?
upload to media fire and post the download link here http://www.mediafire.com/
But I do not see a save as ANSI in the lower leftthe ANSI is not in the forum......it is in note pad when you "Save as" you find it at the bottom in the dropp down menu
Duh… I don’t know why I didn’t think of that! :-[

The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here
I will review the information when it comes back in.
Depending on what the fix contains, this process may take some time and your desktop icons might disappear or other uncommon behavior may occur.
This is no sign of malfunction, do not panic!
I’m afraid it didn’t work.
These are the messages I got. It just asked me to reboot before the changes could be made and then these popped up.
The exception unknown software exception (0x0000fa) occurred in the application location 0x01006a25.
and
The application failed to initialize (0x000012d).
It then seemed to freeze and I had to manually reboot it.
I’m going to try it again though…
Thanks!
When I tried to run the fix again, I got this message Access violation of address005ACBE1 in module ‘OTS.exe’ Read Address 0008080.
I’ll wait to hear from you before I do run the fix again.
I also uninstalled McAfee with with one of the programs suggested.
Run the fixit on this page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034
I think it is the AVG remnants that are getting uppity
Wow! That totally fixed it!
All I did was run it, and reboot it. Google is now working!
Thank you sooooo much!
My pleasure - let me know tomorrow if all is still well
