Every website I go to with google chrome, avast detects a threat and blocks it. Is this a false positive or do I really have a virus?

Thanks for the response. I have attached the logs for you to review as I keep getting the threat blocked URL:Mal that everyone seems to also be getting. I added the aswMBR.txt as well in case it helps you figure out what’s going on at this time.
I advise to remove Spybot - Search & Destroy.
It used to be a good tool, but that was years ago.
Nowadays it has a huge lack of detection and can conflict with other security related software.
Could you let me know if this alert appears in other browsers or just chrome
Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.
[*]Close all open programs and internet browsers.
[*]Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
[*]Click on Scan.
[*]After the scan is complete click on “Clean”
[*]Confirm each time with Ok.
[*]Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
[*]Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
[*]You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S0].txt as well.
Is spybot still worth having just for the immunizaton when searching the web? That’s all I use it for. Let me know and I’ll remove it if that’s just as worthless and what Avast does for me with the active shield is just as good.
Attached is the Adwcleaner txt file and the threat block that is still showing up after the reboot.
Also yes this only happens within google chrome.
Web shield will give you good protection
Do you have an extension called open tabs ?
is web shield a different program or is that part of avast premier which I have. Also I do not have an extension called open tabs.
Hi SeriousGirth
( Avast ) Web Shield is part of Avast ( Premier ).
You can find it here : Avast ( GUI ) - Settings - Active Protection - Web Shield.
Just wait for essexboy to advise you further.

OK Chrome is the bad boy
Re-install Chrome
- If you have bookmarks, let’s save them by exporting them - Export Bookmarks
- Go into the dashboard. Log in. https://www.google.com/settings/dashboard?hl=en
- Scroll down to “Chrome Sync” and click Stop sync and delete data from Google link“
- Click Stop sync and delete data from Google button
- Now we need to uninstall chrome.
Note: When asked about user data or settings you must remove this also so please check the box. - Restart the computer and reinstall chrome, You can download The latest version from here - Google Chrome
- Import your bookmarks back into Chrome
- Sign back in to your Chrome browser so that your bookmarks sync with your online account.
I have exactly the same problem with the same solutions being offered, but to no avail so far. If I finally find a way to get rid of this, I’ll let you know. Some of the experts don’t seem to grasp the fact that detecting the threat and stopping it doing it’s worst is not the end of the problem. It is not practical to carry on using Chrome if you get a threat alert with every click!
Peter
Thanks Rednose, had that active and just removed spybot
Peter - I was in the process of following essexboy’s instructions because I’m a fairly advanced with computers I just don’t understand coding or virus removal when it comes to messing within regedit and thought I would have to do that with this pop-up as it is extremely annoying.
With that being said when I got to the in essexboy’s instructions I noticed 16 extensions which I decided to review before #3 stopping the sync as instructed by essexboy. I noticed a bitdefender extension which I never added. After essexboy’s previous mention of an extension open tabs I removed this along with every other extension I don’t use and the pop-up has stopped.
I didn’t have to remove chrome or re-install it so I would suggest removing extensions until it goes away. As for my computer thank you for all of your help everyone at Avast! I love your program and the active support you provide which is why I tell everyone to use you and to pay for it! You have a customer with me for life!
