My software updater showed I have some updates, one of them is google chrome. When I clicked on update, it came up error. What is the reason for this and can someone give me an alternative for the update?

Update Chrome from within Chrome (which is the best way anyway)

Open Chrome > Click on Customize and control Chrome (3 bars at far right) > Click on About Chrome >

Chrome will automatically check for updates.

Thank you for the reply. I don’t see customize and control chrome. I do see the 3 bars so just click on those?

It only works if you haven’t disabled google-updater.

Works for me and I’m pretty sure I have my Google update disabled, basically it will only run when I click on it. See attachment.

Stopped is not the same as completely disabled.
Remove the googleupdate folder and cleanup the registry.

Just checked my avast software updater, and it shows google chrome up to date, so I guess all is ok!

Yes.

If you hover your mouse over the three bars you will see a tooltip that says “Customize and Control Chrome”.
