Google Chrome

Would someone please tell me how to prevent AVAST from installing Google Chrome? I did an AVAST update this morning and there must have been some pre-checked box (this is wrong to assume people want this software) that caused it to be installed. After installation, i deleted the Google Chrome program once again and thought all was well. However, when i just booted my PC an AVAST message appeared asking me to press the CONTINUE button to complete the AVAST update. Like a fool, i did and it started to install Google Chrome once again! However, due to some error, it never completed the install of Google Chrome.
I don’t want Google Chrome on my PC. How do i prevent this from happening? Like i said, AVAST should not assume everyone wants this software ie. NO pre-checked box!

Did you update from the UI of a previous installation or download the full installation setup file and run that (whilst previous version installed, e.g. over the top) or did you do a clean install ?

Depending on how you updated would give you different screens.
Normally after the update installation you are asked to reboot - after the reboot there is a completion screen which has the google chrome options, image1.

An install over the top (or custom or clean install) normally gives you screen right at the start of the install with the google chrome options, image2 (click to expand.

David, not sure what you mean by “update from the UI of a previous installation”? I had right clicked on the AVAST logo and selected program update. I assume previous version was still installed. I’m pretty sure i was asked to reboot and don’t remember seeing a checked box for the Google Chrome install. I guess i’ll have to be more vigilant in the future.

Yes, that would be updating from an existing/previous avast version and that ‘should’ have given the second image on reboot.

Thanks for your help David.

It would still be nice if the Google Chrome install box WASN’T pre-checked. Is there any hope of getting the AVAST folks to change this?

Maybe you could try Unchecky.Don’t know if it is working with Avast installer.

Edit:
From changelog: Improved support for Avast installer

Never heard of Unchecky, but i’ve installed it as it looks promising. I’ll let you know if it works with the AVAST installer.

There is a conflict with unchecky and Avast, it may take a while to resolve http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=145192.45 see Igor’s reply

Why install a program and not just simply pay more attention when installing/updating something?

Later on today, I’ll install the latest beta version of Unchecky, remove avast! Free and then try to install it again with the latest version of Unchecky running.
Hopefully the conflict is on their end and this latest update fixed it ???

I agree.I don’t use Unchecky, but I heard about it and maybe I’ll try it in the future.

I totally removed avast! Free from my system, installed the latest version of Unchecky, re-installed avast! Free and had no conflict.
Apparently their latest version which includes a fix for avast! is working.

What is the latest version of Unchecky? I’m wondering if i have the latest version installed. The one i have installed is V0.2.5. It is also setup for automatic updates, so wouldn’t i get the latest version anyways?

This is the version I tested and as far as I know it’s the latest:
