Google killer just gone live: cuil searchengine - better!

Hi malware fighters,

Better than Google, at least ambitious, large amout of web results and another presentation. Experts launched CUIL: http://www.cuil.com/

What you think?

I actually quite like it.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t return results within seconds … That’s the major downside.

Other than that, Google seems the be the best search engine for computer-related info. I’ve changed my fav engines from Yahoo! to Google because of that. Sigh, I liked Yahoo’s interface, but Google’s results are just better. (And I really hate Yahoo!'s new starting page.)

I hope Cuil works on the searching speed. Then, maybe (if it returns great results), I’ll migrate.

I think it has a very long way to go before it even kicks Google in the shins, much less kills Google.

I did a test search for an LCD TV I’m interested in, it found nothing, yet Google found 19 hits, better, no way, no contest, Google kicks sand in this engines face. I like minimalist (being a dial-up user) but a little colour is nice, the cuil start page is downright ugly

Edit: I just simplified the search to samsung lcd tv and it found nothing absolutely pathetic.

We didn’t find any results for “samsung lcd tv”

Google has numerous previous search options and returns 2,400,000 hits, Google killer, don’t make me laugh.

I like it also.It is good that we are offered a different choice than Google, cause Yahoo is nothing now.

Seems too slow /several second waiting, i thought it was a server problem.

I tiped Adria (thinking in the world famous Catalan chef Ferrán Adriá) and i got better results than Google: better quality and more universal results than Google which always offers in firsts positions the MORE Wanted, but i might be looking for a painter or a company or a physicist, not the well known cook.

For comparison here is what you get when you type adria in google spain:

http://www.google.es/search?q=adria&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:es-ES:official&client=firefox-a

I tried cuil for a couple of basic searches and got no results where as with google I got 10+ pages of results for the same basic search words. Unlike others, for the searches I did get results for, the results “seemed” about as quick as google for the same searches and I am also on dialup.

I like the home page as it is simple and easy to use. I have added cuil to the list of search engines in my Opera browser and hope that it continues to improve.

Yeah, surely some server problems. When I clicked Your Privacy I got cannot find page.

We’ll be back soon...

Due to overwhelming interest, our Cuil servers are running a bit hot right now. The search engine is momentarily unavailable as we add more capacity.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi FwF,

Go there now, it is getting faster, it is getting better all the time. CUIL…

pol

It is going to have to get much, much better if it is to live up to the hyped title.

Google is making efforts in various areas. Some services such as [u][b]Google Books and [u][b]Google Scholar let people educate themselves. Of course, competent search engines are always welcome since they give the users alternatives, though.

How about adding word cocinar, or cook in Spanish, to the search keywords like http://www.google.es/search?&q=adria+cocinar? I cannot read the results, though. :stuck_out_tongue:

So, it looks like that there is still some work to do for Cuil and i agree with some of the critics that they shouldn´t emphasize on the number of pages indexed, cause of course quality is much more important than quantity.

But there is time to improve. You never build a very good product in just one day. They should invest (pay) for my advices.

Off Topic: would you eat this “salmonete” fish spine (on the photo)? People do pay 215 € for a degustation menu of 25 dishes like this one. In fact it is not an already-eaten-fish, but I do not know what it is.

Hi sopadeajo,

There are other initiatives, like this stealth search engine, not bad:
