Google Maps

I have a new computer with Win 8.1 and am using Firefox 28.0 and Avast free 2014.9.0.2016.

I find that Google Maps will not work in any way without disabling the Avast add-in. Surely this is a known problem, but I can find no mention of it. Any ideas of how to get Avast and Google Maps to both work.

Hi Ken and welcome to the forums. Do you have any add-on’s in Firefox (FF)?

Was Avast a clean (new) install?

Do you have any other security software on your machine (perhaps that came with the machine)? If so, how was it removed/uninstalled?

It was a clean install done after installing Win 8 and upgrading to 8.1 on a brand new bare bones computer. I installed Firefox 28 and then Avast.
Having disabled all add ons to Firefox and got Google Maps to work, I added some and found that Avast was causing the problem. i have now added Affilorama, Autofill Forms, Greasemonkey and SEOQuake and Google Maps still works.

What version of Avast Free are you using?

You’re sure there wasn’t another AV on the machine prior to Avast? Do you have any other security software on the machine now?

As I said in the original 2014.9.0.2016

There is no other AV on the machine.

It seems that the AOS is causing issues for “some”, not all, users. What many have done
is to disable the AOS in their browsers. Personally I like the idea behind the AOS. I just
wish it would work as it should. Unfortunately for some this is not the case. Sadly I was
among those who it didn’t work very well.

There seems to be a problem with Avast add ins as I’ve also got a problem with Outlook 2007 on the same computer. Disabled the Avast addin and I can receive emails.
