I understand that this is not a dedicated malware removal site and that its purpose is to be an informative and helpful site for those who use avast!, a repected anti-malware product, and may have questions about its use, or may need to report a possible bug or have need to troubleshoot a problem. However, a forum/site that is owned and maintained by an anti-virus develolper/vendor can hardly be regarded as “just a general forum.”

This is not a site where one comes to discuss movies, music, cooking, or shopping. One would likely regard with scepticism any/all malware removal advice given at such forums, or at least view such advice with caution and not accept it at face value. However, when malware removal advice is dispensed at a site belonging to an anti-virus/anti-malware developer/vendor, one is likely to trust that advice.

This particular forum is designated as a “place to ask for help.” I may have missed it, but I have seen no cautionary statement posted that would advise a visitor or newly registered member of what restrictions, if any, are placed on those who offer malware removal advice and/or fixes, or that the advice offered may be offered by individuals with no particular expertise in the area of malware removal and may in fact produce dire results if followed.

Granted, there may well be those here such as yourself who are qualified to give such advice, but there are also plenty of members who certainly are not qualified. Therefore, it would behoove this site to at least post a strong cautionary statement so that those who come here assuming they will receive expert malware removal advice will not presume that any/all who respond to their pleas for help are qualified to do so. In short, as this is not a “dedicated malware removal site,” that should be clearly noted. If unqualified individuals are permitted to post advice they are not qualified to dispense, that should also be clearly noted.
