Google redirect to 64.111.211.158

It looks as if I caught that Google redirect virus that’s been going around. Search results come up as normal but all links redirect to 64.111.211.158 (ISPrime?). It affects Firefox and IE, Google and Bing.

I’ve tried a bunch of virus scanners but none have been able to find it. Now I will sit tight and hope that essexboy or another senior member will be so kind as to walk me through a fix.

You can start the ball rolling by running OTS and attaching the log so he has something to work with.

Note: this says attach the file (to big for copy and paste, use the Additional Options in the Reply window to attach the file.

OTS scan was too large to attach so I uploaded it here:

Essexboy is notified…
He is usually in here from 8:00pm - 11:59pm UK time

Could you let me know if the redirects persist after rebooting please

Start OTS. Copy/Paste the information in the quotebox below into the panel where it says “Paste fix here” and then click the Run Fix button.

The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here

I will review the information when it comes back in.

Depending on what the fix contains, this process may take some time and your desktop icons might disappear or other uncommon behavior may occur.

This is no sign of malfunction, do not panic!

It looks like that did the trick! OTS rebooted the computer to “finish removing files”. Notepad popped up after the reboot (log is attached). I’ve rebooted again since then and the redirect has not returned.

Does this virus try to steal passwords or banking information? I made one online purchase while infected and can report that credit card stolen if necessary.

Thanks a million, essexboy. You’re the man!

UPDATE: Attached file looks Chinese to me. Here’s the fix log on MediaFire:

Run for a day or so to ensure it has gone, then let me know and I will tidy up

There was no indication of a keylogger/password stealer. However, I always feel it is prudent to alert your bank and ask them to monitor your account for a while

i got the same redirect url virus…it pops up every 5 mins or so on my avast warnings…i did the ots download and ran it…but its still popping up…please let me know how to get rid of this or if i ran the download wrong…i attached the notepad that it send to me…

@celtic_crossing1975 when asking for help you should always start your own topic as helping multiple users in the same thread will be chaos

not sure how to start my own reply…new to using avast…still getting the malicious url warning popping up on my avast alerts…ran the ots scan a few times…but not sure why its not getting rid of my virus

here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0

above the orange line there is a blue “NEW TOPIC” button

i tried to start a new topic and i also tried to post my notepad report from my ots download…but it says its too big…is there a way u can email me or get ahold of me on yahoo messenger and help me out with getting rid of this virus?

Surely your OTS.Txt (163.97 KB - downloaded 0 times.) that you attached to your first post is the same size, attach that same file ?

If the file is bigger than 200KB you can use a file sharing site such as Mediafire.com - Upload to http://www.mediafire.com/ and post the sharing link in your new topic…

This is stabguy again. It’s still looking good after several reboots. I’m ready to tidy up.

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL

[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:Commands [resethosts] [purity] [emptytemp] [EMPTYFLASH] [Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that

[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[
]Click OK.

Wait… do you mean OTL or OTS? I tried doing this in OTS and it said “No fix has been provided!” (because the Paste Fix Here pane is empty).

That is because I am a total numpty - wrong forum :stuck_out_tongue:

Start OTS. Copy/Paste the information in the quotebox below into the panel where it says “Paste fix here” and then click the Run Fix button.

[CreateRestorePoint]
