Google Search yields alert..

Ever since Avast updated I do a google search from the chrome address bar i get an virus alert from a trojan from an unknown site.

Says Threat secured…We’ve safely aborted connection on ironmodal.com because it was infected with Other:Malware-gen[Trj]

Is it a specific search on Google or every search?

every google search its bizarre…same alert

Hi, see if this helps: https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Reset-browser

Full disclosure - I’m not using Avast but I’m getting the same symptoms. Bitdefender keeps alerting me to an infected webpage “ironmodal.com” - seems to happen when I use Google search or Bing. AV keeps catching it but a scan hasn’t deleted it. I know this doesn’t offer a solution but it isn’t just Avast and it isn’t just Google search.

Hi,
ironmodal is correctly blocked. It contains malicious JS. Does it happen in other browsers? If not try what Asyn suggested.

Lukas

reset browser. Ironmodal.com still on a google search :frowning:

Does the issue appear in other browser?

are you using symbaloo? I’m thinking I might have it figure out. Symabloo says its unsecure and when I do a google search using the address bar on it that’s when I get the ironmodal.com alert.

welp thought it was symbaloo not being secure but its happening again on secure sites if I use the address bar. Now Avast says due to url being blacklisted instead of the trojan it used to say.

I am experiencing the very same thing! I keep getting the ironmodal.com issue. I’ve installed another anti-virus program called G-Data because I copied the URL of the ironmodal into an online scanner. However, when I did the deep scan of G-Data it still didn’t remove the ironmodal.com. I can’t seem to find out what app is requesting to go to ironmodal.com

for sure something going on. So strange

someone on reddit experiencing the same thing.

Slatimer72,

I believe I’ve fixed the issue… This is what I did.

  1. Made backup copy of my bookmarks and browser history.
  2. COMPLETELY uninstalled chrome.
  3. Restarted the computer.
  4. Went to google chrome website and downloaded it through firefox.
  5. Installed chrome and logged into my google account.
  6. Google chrome added all my plugins/extendation, I said yes to restore it back.
  7. Jumped onto google.com and did 15 random google searches. NO warning came up from Avast.

I recommend trying this yourself. If you haven’t already… However, if this doesn’t work for you please let me know because I find this to be very interesting issue.

so I’m pretty sure my issue was a video downloader extension like the person had in the reddit thread. I unistalled it and havent have an issue since.

Which one did you download. Because I downloaded a few of them however I uninstalled them because I didn’t need them anymore.

I think it was called Video Downloader Professional. I haven’t have any issues since I unistalled.

I tried methodically removing Chrome extensions - after deleting Video Downloader Professional the ironmodal alert seems to have stopped. I think someone else found this solution worked. Good luck! Incidentally, I’m forced to complete a verification image to post here - and the images are all but indecipherable, thanks fo rthat.
