Got a question about a few of the programs that begin at startup on my computer.

Now I’m not concerned with any of them being a virus, I just want to know what they do and if I actually need them.

ctfmon.exe
IMJPMIG.exe
LifeExp.exe
vVX1000.exe

I know the top two are related to having the Asian Language Pack installed, if I remember correctly and the bottom two are related to my webcam, is this all correct? Searches online have been kind of fuzzy, I didn’t know where to ask so I cam here.

The first 2 on the following list have to do with Language

The second 2 have to do with the webcam - don’t need to run at startup

CTFMON.EXE, CTFMON.DLL http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q282599
IMJPMIG.exe http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/ime/default.mspx
vVX1000.exe http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/digitalcommunication/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=002
LifeExp.exe http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/digitalcommunication/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=002

None of them seem too intensive, any reason to remove them from start up?

Edit: The last three links all get redirected to Microsoft pages, odd.

IMJPMIG goes here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/downloads/ie

The webcam stuff goes here: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us

I wonder if that’s because I use firefox or it means something else.

Strictly a users choice. If you like some of functions that are offered by having it start when windows starts then leave it alone.

Ah thanks, I use my webcam quite often, I don’t think any functions are offered by it running, but it does keep it from having to boot up when I start the webcam, so it’s a convenience thing, but thank you for answering my question.

Also the quote in your sig “It’s nice to be Important. - It’s more important to be Nice.” is my rule for how I interact with people online, I wish the rest of the net shared our believes.

It certainly would make for a much friendlier world.
