Cool. Thanks. Superantispyware picked up two instances of Heur.Agent/Gen-Whitebox. From my research, looks like a file associated with torrent programs.
superanti crashed 23 minutes into the scan… looks like I’ll be doing your method without explorer essex!
The Reatogo programme is a fully contained xp system so there will be no explorer problems there
Quick question essex. Downloading OTLPE and eeepcfr as well as letting up the first flashdrive should be done on a clean pc? As far as I know, it’s not possible for me to download anything on the infected computer. Will get back to you with the log files in the next 24 hours.
Yes a clean PC would be best
as an immediate response,i opt u to try formattin the system.as u don’t have a cd drive,u should probably try o get a bootable usb with windows (version)in it from ur friends.this is the best thing u could do!
Hi jithinm,
Reformatting a computer is last-resort and should be avoided if possible.
If you don’t know computers, then don’t jump into topics. You may damage someone’s PC.
Thanks,
~Donovan
Thanks guys. I’ll reformat ONLY if all else fails. I’m gonna go with essex boy’s plan and see what we come up with. If it all ends with a reformat, then so be it. But i’m gonna try everything else first. Maybe the info we find can help someone else in the future.
Essex, can’t get the eeepc to work on my clean computer. PeToUSB doesn’t recognize my flash. I formatted the flash and there is nothing on it, but not sure why PeToUSB isn’t recognizing it. The computer recognizes the flash however. PeToUSB says “No USB disk found!”
What size is the drive ? And are you running it from XP or Vista/7
8 gb flash and the clean pc is windows 7
Are you running eeecp as admin ?
Yes sir
After I strike a key in the usb_prep8.cmd window, a list of options comes up titled Prepares Windows XP localsource for copy to USB-drive. There are 8 options. For example, make new tempimage with xp local spurce and cpy to usb drive
I will have to have a quick play with it as it is a while since I last used the programme
Back soon
OK sussed it - The drive needs to be formatted in FAT32 windows 7 will only format in NTFS
Can you access another xp system to format the drive to fat32
Ooops my error - it will not work in 7
Just running a new programme to check it out
Download the following programme to your desktop and run as administrator
Select the OTLPE iso file
Click OK and let it do its thing
Essex, when I boot the infected pc with the usb, I get a message saying "could not find kernel image:linux boot: Not sure what else to do.
the clean pc I used is windows 7 and not XP so maybe that has something to do with it?
