Hi,
On Friday night I clicked one of the videos on failblog. Avast found the virus and told me, but when I told Avast to put it in the chest, it went corrupt and I got the red circle over the icon.
I followed the repair that Avast told me to do but it did not work. So I uninstalled Avast and reinstalled and it went corrupt again.
I went to Microsoft to get tools to remove the virus but the virus corrupted everthing I downloaded.
It took over my Windows Security control panel and had fake warnings and links to install this random 3rd party virus removal software. I didnt click any of them but a ton installed anyway.
Then it was redirecting my internet.
Eventually as soon as I would boot up I would get a Windows pop up saying that the system was shutting down because system.exe stopped unexpectedly.
Booting in safe mode had no effect. All the software it installed kept poping up there too and Avast still would corrupt as soon as I installed it.
I ended up re imaging the machine. Don’t think I lost much data.
Why did Avast fail like this? Is it powerful enough to stop a virus from corrupting it? What should I do if anything like this ever happens again? I will start backing my stuff up more offten.
Thanks
