Hello avast! The other day I got a malware gen virus in my computer, so I moved it to the chest. Today I went to look at it to send it off to the virus lab, and when I rescanned it, it said “no virus”. Does this mean it’s gone? I did the boot time scan as avast said it found this virus and suggested that I do a boot time scan. Everything found went to the chest and today it says that there is no virus in those infected files. Does the a/v eventually clean these or heal them? One of the files was an i386 cab file, so I am a little perplexed. I run windows xp home with the latest update/program from avast.
If you scanned it within the avast chest (not from outside the chest) then it is no longer considered infected, a false positive detection and why it is important to send to chest rather than delete.
You can open the chest and right click on the file and select Restore. Check that the file has been placed back in the original location and if so, manually delete the copy that remains in the chest.
Thanks for the quick reply David! You guys are awesome here. Ive also done scans with malwarebytes and superantispyware and the came up clean. I will preform the restore. Thanks again.
You’re welcome.
