Got the free avast, then anti virus, no luck.

Tried to uninstall chrome and got an error message that it may have been removed already?

Lets now look a bit deeper

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

Ok.

Suddenly chrome looks totally different and i can’t find anything. Bookmarks are gone, only big icons. I hate everything about computers. You can buy cars and appliances all day long and they’ll work for years. Not so computers. You have know every intricate detail about it’s repair or pay someone to constantly fix it and who knows what they do when it’s in their shop.

OK it appears that the malware has gone so now we need to clear you up… What are the current problems

I still have malware pop ups and the monitor has gone black a couple of times since last night and so I unplug the power cord for a minute. And my bookmarks are large icons when they used to be a nice long list in easy to find folders. The only way I can find this site in the history menu.

Could you screenshot one of the popups please

Do they appear in the browser or just on the desktop. If in the browser is it Chrome or IE

I don’t know how to do a screenshot but they seem to be in the browser. I think I’ve made everything worse this week and I need to find a new computer shop in town. Apparently the guy I’ve been using didn’t install any malware protection because he thinks I’m easy money.

Last night I disabled avast before running the combo thing and now I can’t seem to enable it.

OK which browser are they in… I would guess chrome

When you say they you mean bookmarks? Yes I’ve been using chrome but it’s so messed up now I started using mozilla but can’t sign into this site from there so I have to switch back to chrome.

Can chrome be restored to the old version so I could use it again? I would have appreciated a heads-up before it turned to a dunghole.

I got a notice this morning that my ‘avast trial’ is ending. And I guess I’m stuck with the version of chrome that i can’t use? Thanks for that by the way. At least my malware problem has subsided for now … until my trial period runs out of course and then I’ll have to find some other kind of “free” protection. Why does everything in this country feel like organized crime?

Still getting avast pop ups about malware on chrome. So far the only thing I accomplished here was to ruin my browser.

Hi the problem is not Avast but Chrome it has been totally corrupted by malware

Chrome is now becoming the most insecure browser.

The only way to remedy this is totally uninstall chrome

Re-install Chrome

  1. If you have bookmarks, let’s save them by exporting them - Export Bookmarks
  2. Then I need you to go Google Sync and sign into your account
  3. Scroll down until you see the “Stop and Clear” button and click on the button. At the prompt click on “Ok”
  4. Now we need to uninstall chrome. Note: When asked about user data or settings you must remove this also so please check the box.
  5. Restart the computer and reinstall chrome, You can download The latest version from here - Google Chrome
  6. Import your bookmarks back into Chrome
  7. Sign back in to your Chrome browser so that your bookmarks sync with your online account.

If I do it again and get the same unusable version of chrome that’s apparently made for smart phones then there’s no point. So far no one has addressed the new version I’ve been mentioning.

Did you use the link that is in my last post ? As that is for the PC version
