I did a test with 27 mb of virii
i did a test with avast4,kaspersky,dr.web and nod32
AVAST4 missed only 1 !!!
great
the best score kaspersky 100%
dr.web missed 20
nod32 130

Yes…It is great. Isn’t it!!!
;D
What about AVG?
i did not try it!
i think the trojans (remote access backdoor) avast doesn’t detect…or it detect but few
i think Kerio & AVAST4 is a terrible couple
I agree! i am using Kerio 4 beta & avast 4…no problems for me!
only the virus database of avast is poor if i compare with kaspersky or f-prot…and so on
joanlu di dove 6?
I don’t think (i’m sure) that AVAST4 has less detection possibilities as other AV’s…I found the number of detected virusses & backdoor & trojans verry high.
Having a large virus databases does not mean that it is a good scanner. AVAST detects 100% of in the wild virusses and has EXCELLENT HEURISTIC features.
Wich is far more important than a large database.
As for coorperation with Kerio > no problems, and i believe that the creators of avast and Kerio hav some kind of buisness arangement, so that both products work
together verry smooth.
Greats,
Waldo
Avast uses a heuristic? The Problem with a heuristic is that the posibility of false alarms is much higher, than having a good, up to date Database. And the more “agressive” the heuristic is, the more Malware it finds, but the more false alarms it reports.
I rate a good unpacking (UPX, ASPACK) engine higher than a “agressive” heuristic.
But that is only my opinion.
No, i think Avast! is ok in virus database too…I used AVG and it is poor! F-Prot? It was my first antivirus and I like it. I use DOS version today to check Avast results…I have to say Avast and F-prot are friends…
P.S. Sono italiano di Pescara, perchè?
ahh
i tried to run Remote access and virii and avast4 doen’t detect !!!
i think the more important thing is have a large database…like KASPERSKY (INCREDIBLE AV!!! i think the best ! really really)
i don’t know the heuristic engine of avast4
Send the not detected files to Avast and they will solve this issue!
I totaly agree. But AVAST does use Heuristics, although only on its Mail providers. But with the resident shield put up to scan ALL files, no virus will run.
But a good “unpacker engine” is far most important. That’s why I asked many questions (today) in this forum about the options to scan CAB’s also. (microsofts archive)
A heuristic resident scanner, can indeed pull off many fals alert, wich work verry distracting, and could be dangerous, if you delete a “good” file, that is flaged by the heuristic.
Its hard to find a good solution between “strong heuristic” and not many false alerts.

i think the great thing of avast that is incredible accurate!!!
but if i compare the avast database to kaspersky,dr.web,f-prot,norton,f-secure…is poor
He told about Virii archive information! Maybe…
but if i compare the avast database to kaspersky,dr.web,f-prot,norton,f-secure…is poor
Don’t forget that many vendors include ALL the different strings of the main virus in there “online” (webpage) & “inscanner” database, and others vendors only place the main virus string in there database, although they detect the same (many) strings of the orginal virus.
So thats why there’s sometimes such a big difference in the amount of different virusses included in the AV’s database.
This gives a false image, as most of the AV programs detect excatly the same virusses.
A large database doesn’t mean its a safe scanner. There are TO many other things (parameters) that makes a scanner “good” or “bad”. like unpacker engine, and heurisic.
