This week, I have had several different pop up messages stating viruses are on my computer or someone is trying to access my login/password info, etc and that I need this program Green AV. I am thinking they are not legit. I downloaded the Avast home version & have ran the scans to find a few things placed in to the chest.
Here is my PROBLEM:
I cannot get the Green AV pop-ups, yellow bar above each web page, or their icon from the bottom right side of my monitor to go away. I have refused to download anything from them, but am continually getting messages with buttons to easily download it.
Are they legit? Are they different from Avast? How can I get rid of it all?
Any such alert by a program other than one you installed yourself should be treated with the utmost suspicion.
Q. How could something know there are infected files on your system without having a) downloaded and installed the scanner and b) run a scan.
A. They can’t it is a fake alert, rogueware.
So are the legit, I would say not.
Are they different to avast, most certainly this is scumware.
Try these other tools.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it and report the findings (it should product a log file).
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, On-Demand only in free version http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe, right click on the link and select Save As or Save File (As depending on your browser), save it to a location where you can find it easily later. - 2. SUPERantispyware On-Demand only in free version.
Don’t worry about reported tracking cookies they are a minor issue and not one of security, allow SAS to deal with them though. - See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie.
Killing the messenger still leaves you with the problem, just that you might not be aware of it. Not to mention it may have nothing to do with firefox, in which case pop-up blockers won’t have any impact.
