Green Lower Toolbar and Desktop Green?

Hi There i am new to the forum :)- and had previously downloaded the latest AVAST 4.6 about 3 weeks ago?,a strange occurance happened when i loaded up AVAST ::)-my lower TOOLBAR completely turned GREEN(horrible) and then the DESKTOP ICONS turned GREEN and my lower display boxes changed colour also,i had to uninstall AVAST because the whole TOOLBAR and the ICONS were unreadable!.I had to eventually UN-INSTALL AVAST.

I a few days later i re-installed AVAST thinking it could be one of those things that happens sometimes-but had exacktly the same problem, the main control program was ok sometimes but not always, sometimes it also was GREEN,any help here?.

I am running XP SP2 WINDOWS,with no problems, have done lots scans with AVs,anti-trojans,malware everything!,just also to say that i had the same problem with the earlier version of AVAST!.

Make sure you have the latest video drivers.

This problem ONLY happens with AVAST !,in all the programs i have on my PC including latest ones like AVG and AVPE,AVAST is the ONLY program that gives me trouble!,do you still think it is a video driver problem?.

Are you using (running) the residents simultaneously?
That could be the reason for a conflic and malfunction of the drivers… ::slight_smile:

It is most likely a conflict with Avast & your video drivers. So you basicly can blame both.
Install Avast and than reinstall the video drivers. See if that solves it.

And if you can post a screenshots when green colour occurs, so we all will be able to give our assessments. Also, as Technical said, running two or more antiviruses with resident shield active in the same time, is not the cleverest thing you can do.

Post a screenshots and we’ll see…

Hi back,no i was only using AVAST as a main program with WEB SHIELD,i only used th eothers as on denmand scanners only as backup.

Oh boy… you quoted last reply soooo bad I have to say, everything is so messed up… ;D I can barely read what’s inside…

Anyway… regarding screenshot…

When those greenish colours occurs, just press PrtScn (print screen) key on your keyboard. It’s somewhere close to ScrLk (Scroll Lock) and Pause keys - it depends on the type of keyboard you have.

Now screen that you see is copied into the clipboard (temporary). Now open any paint program, you can even use standard Windows Paint, and paste it from the clipboard using keys CTRL+V or from the Paint dropdown menu, go to EDIT / PASTE (CTRL+V)

Your screenshot will appear on the screen. Save it as Jpg (because of good compression and the final resulting file size) somewhere on your local disk. Then, come back to this thread, reply to us and don’t forget to attach your screenshot. The screen where you type your messages, take a look below and you’ll find Additional Options…

Click to expand that menu, and you’ll see Attach field. Click on Browse, find your screenshot on the local disk where you previously saved it, and attach it. Post your reply, and that’s it.

Note: Allowed file type for attachments are txt, jpg, gif, png, log. Maximum attachment size iz 200 Kb per one single post, so take care about those facts. Don’t post pictures above 200 Kb because they will not be attached in your post…

Thanks for the advice on how to POST a screenshot of the GREEN occurances on the DESKTOP when i have AVAST running, yes it did look a bit messy the last post just read it apaologies.

ps still learning! ::slight_smile:

Hi back i am posting the SCREENSHOT that i have after i click on AVAST blue icon on desktop.

No screenshot attached to your post.

Did you add it to the additional Options?

Hi david i seem to be having trouble with sending this screenshot,i have saved the desktop screenshot as a JPG 172 kb,and used BROWSE to pictures where i stored it,then clicked open and then attatched but although it said the description in the mesage bar of attatch ihas not gone through?,this is th efirst time i have tried to post a screeb shot and followerd the advive by SZ CRAFTEC,help!.

I assume that you didn’t click Preview to see how it looked, if you did you will need to reattach the file after preview before clicking Post.

Did you get any error messages associated with the Post?

When i try to attatch the file picture/screenshot which is now 172 kb from my (PICTURES) as a jpg file it comes up in the browse window as:-

D:\ Documents and Settings\my nane\My Documents\My Pictures\desktop screenshot with avast.jpg

Thne when i try to post it nothing goes through, must be doing something wrong but i do not know what any help?.

Hi david,
HOORAY! success at last!i managed to post the desktop and toolbar screenshot, hope you and the guys at AVAST- VIK? or technical can figure out this problem!
After the AVAST BLUE ICON SHORTCUT is clicked on desktop that is when all the colours go MAD and change as you can see, after AVAST does a memory test the desktop re-boots to this colour screen, also all my TOP icons in MOZILLA FIREFOX change colour too.
When i get the small screen white/grey box appear after the memory test if i close down this box the desktop re-boots itself?.
If i keep the white box and choose skins i get the choice of skins ok,and if i apply the colour e.g szc kde i get a nice BLUE GUI.
Once i have the main screen up ithe desktop seems to re-boot again and all is ok?
I have only (1) anti-virus resident guard active all the time which is AVG with the main AVG 7.0 program all the rest are on-demand av scanners e.g avpe, bitdefender.
When i first installed AVAST I custom INSTALLED IT without the standard/web shield enabled so as not to conflict with AVG.
I have zone alarm firewall,and i am running XP SP2 512mb memory.

Southern Man,

From your screenshot i can see you infact are running more then one resident scanner at the same time, it looks like avast, avg and Antivir.
This is most liley your problem…IMHO

–lee

Yes Lee is right… you are running more than one resident antivirus in the same time on same machine. Avast! icon is active and not crossed as it should be when resident providers are disabled.

Another thing… a waaaaaaaaay too much things in your system tray… so many things running in the same time, something must go wrong somewhere. It’s not normal that someone have so many things in startup, as you can see, very very soon you’ll run out of space for additional icons…

Thanks guys LEE and SZ for having a look at my screenshot, you are correct about avast not having the red cross in the blue ball,i HAD enabled that before in the custom setup so i that I DID NOT have resident guard/web shield ect,i even went into add/remove programs to disable the guard!, and i did have the red cross previously, but i un-installed avast and re-installed it and forgot to do that my fault, but even when the red cross was in the blue ball i still had the same problem?,now and in the past.
I only have AVG as my resident guard AVPE is installed only as a on demand scanner without the RESIDENT GUARD enabled from the initial setup program, the other one which you can see in the toolbar is red is Bitdefender FREE 7.2 (far right toolbar) and is a scanner ONLY and has NO virus guard enabled in this free edition.
One more point i would like to make guys ,about 1 year ago i had only AVPE installed with virtually nothing else except zone alarm, spybot, adaware, win patrol that was it!,i uninstalled avpe COMPLETELY and installed AVAST 4.5 because of good reviews,i had exactly the same problem with the colours and desktop re-booting after selecting menu ect,so i had to un-install it unfortunately.
I have looked through the FORUM quite thoroughly to see if anyone else has had this problem now or in the past, and cannot find any one with the same problems as i have,i have also looked elsewhere on the net,so it looks like it must be something to do with me!,maybe i should un-install everthing and just load up AVAST and try that, what do you think?.
Regards the many icons in the system tray could this possibly be a cause a problem do you think, which ones would you suggest to have, and those to lose?,for me i like to keep an eye on everything hence the many icons
By the way thankyou all for a friendly and helpful forum, good advice with mannners, which some sites do not always afford.

best regards
