Gremlins In My Machine

On one of my computers I’ve got a problem… and I don’t know what it is.

No matter what Anti-malware or Anti-Virus programs I try to run, it won’t let me.

The scan will get about 1/2 way through and then, BAM! The whole computer just automatically reboots.

I don’t get any reports or anything.

I was able get online and download MalwareBytes… But when I tried to go to avast.com, BAM! The whole computer just automatically rebooted.

I put Avast onto a flash drive from a different computer… then loaded it onto the problem computer… Good enough… Installed it and everything. Rebooted. No problem.

Ran AVAST! …it got about 1/2 way through and, BAM! The whole computer just automatically rebooted.

I’m not sure how I can even identify the what the problem is.

Any suggestions?

Do a boot-time scan: Open Avast > Scan tab > Boot-time scan (or something like that)
This is a nasty trojan that reboots the PC when an antivirus tries to scan the file, you will not have this problem when the boot-time scan is running before Windows starts.

I tried that.

It doesn’t run the Boot Scan at all…

Just boots up as usual.

Does the Avast Free version run the Boot Time Scan?

Maybe that’s the problem.

The free have Boot scan

Follow this guide and post the OTL log HERE, then essexboy will have a look

I’ll try … Do you think I’ll be able to access that site and download that file? ???

If not, then I’ll have to use the flash drive, huh?
