Group Policy prevents Avast from running, can anyone help please?

Hi, I have an old laptop that I would like to get running again, the current issue with it is that it has the error message that Avast wont run because of a group policy. Can anyone help with how to resolve this please?

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. While running the aswmbr.exe scan i had a blue sod. laptop has re-started tho.

would log onto a user but items on desktop still not loading after 15 minutes and un-responsive. re-started into safe mode and running scan for aswmbr.

scan result for aswmbr. i look forward to hearing from you.

Avast should now start after the first reboot

hi, i tried logging in, in normal mode but after 15 minutes its still trying. so re-started into safe mode and could access avast although it doesnt like the fact its in safe mode. just did the fixlist thing in safe mode and re-started. still cant log on in normal mode. here is the log for the fixlist. I’ll run the adwcleaner in safe mode but what do i do about getting into the system normally. i could earlier this morning until the blue sod. ?

Do you get any error when you try to go to normal mode ?

From safe mode do the following and then reboot to normal mode

In the search box type Msconfig and select the programme that appears at the top

1.In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Selective Startup on the General tab.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/Cleanboot1.JPG

2.Click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
NoteThe Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.
3.Click the Services tab.
4.Click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/cleanboot2.JPG

5.Click Disable All, and then click OK.
6.When you are prompted, click Restart.

so, i ran adwcleaner in safe mode, it re-started and logged in normally and i could see the log file but machine was unresponsive. have got the log file from going into safe mode and c:adwcleaner. see attachment. Will now try your most recent suggestions.

no error when i log on in normal mode, either it wont log on or it does but then does not respond to anything

followed your 6 steps and after clicking to hide all microsoft services, the ones remaining were all stopped, clicked ok and restart, loaded ok, logged in ok, adwcleaner so file open.closed that, clicked on avast shortcut, avast came up as unsecured, no response to resolve all, no response to start. it was showing as beinlogged into my account, but the registration had ended, clicked to register and an error occured.

The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error.

Clicked on update and error message - failed to update, the avast service is not running.

i remembered that i earlier turned on windows defender. turned this off and tried to register, enable shields, resolve all and update avast but it is still unresponsive.

went to control panel, avast, uninstall/change, clicked on repair its doing stuff.

completed the repair and now re-starting…fingers crossed…

:frowning:

the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0150002).click ok to close the application. Help please?

also, do i just leave that change to the system configuration or do i need to change it back that essexboy suggested? thanks.

As it stands at the moment leave it in the clean boot configuration

[*]Reinstall Avast

ok, i have downloaded them ready to try your suggestions of uninstalling and re-installing fresh. just before i do though, as i mentioned earlier, this is an old laptop and perhaps i didnt make it clear, sorry, but what i mean is that this problem occured quite some time ago then i used another laptop, anyway, trying to fix it now with your kind help and thought you should know that there are something like 135 updates to install as its not been used for a long time. so, could this be a reason for the avast not working as i repaired it via control panel/add,remove, repair programs and it did update earlier today, so wondering if there is now a discrepancy…? Do you think i should follow your instructions of uninstall/reinstall first or update first? thinking back, this affected laptop initially fell over during an update some time ago and then i noticed that the avast was down and i put it to one side. im guesing that i must have had the malware already at that point, the update fell over, and avast went down at that time. anyway, update first or uninstall and reinstall first? thank you in advance.

Theoretically it should make no difference however, I would uninstall Avast first… Then Update windows, followed by installing a fresh copy of Avast

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread! I followed the most recent instructions then updated and I am now up and running and secure. Thank you once again.

Regards,
