GTK version found insecure by Secunia

I just did, for other reasons, a manual scan with secunia, and it found that my GTK versions (2.10), used by GIMP and Inkscape, were insecure. Dowloaded an updated Windows version (2.18) from the GTK web site but hey, I got no idea how to install that, and can’t find any how to. There are two executables in the archive and they don’t seem to do anything. GTK was installed automatically with GIMP and Inkscape (each time again inside each program folder, no own separate installer/uninstaller). I found an update version of Inkscape, but still using the same outdated GTK version. Anyone ? thanks.

The packages here are for people who develop software that uses GTK+. This page is not intended directly for end-users. It is expected that people who build installers for GTK+ applications for Windows bundle GTK+ with them

ps: GTK (Gnome ToolKit) is rarely used in Windows, it’s an OpenSource code mainly used in Linux to support misc program graphics interface. So, as Inkscape and GIMP come from the OpenSource world, no surprise they need it and use it.

adding: secunia only warns about one dll, may be I should just replace it ???

adding again: I don’t think I can make it but will have to wait until GIMP and Inkscape get delivered with updated GTK.
issue doesn’t seem to be that critical… :-\

Hello Logos,

same here. No clue either other then to wait for new GIMP.

np, thanks for the feedback

hi, i got the same warning . are you talking about the libgdk dll thing?

what i did was, i downloaded the patch using secunia. and i got a rar file. i replaced the insecure files in their corresponding directory with the files from the extracted rar file. after the scan secunia says the programs were patched.

i’m not really sure with this method, but it worked for me. the programs using GTK= is working fine.

you might also want to uninstall GTK and then reinstall after.

yes, that’s what I’m talking about. Also thought of replacing some files manually, but thought I could break something so I didn’t do it. It’s not possible here to uninstall GTK separately, there’s nothing to do it. thanks for posting
