Guess I'll Uninstall? Anyone know of a good alternative to Avast

welp been using avast for a long time now, it decided to be a piece of junk for the last week or so (failing to load ui, unprotected errors etc). tried “repairing”, tried uninstall/reinstall, tried the “beta”. nothing fixes it. and a quick google search shows im not the only one with these issues.

since avast seems incapable of fixing this issue, does anyone know of a good alternative?

Try this: Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

lol yah no. i saw that already. and as others have pointed out in other threads on this very forum…LOL…no…im not going to enable that. your software should just work without it on. period.

also to the other guy…did…did you not read??? i already did a “repair”

Well, that’s up to you.

Sometimes individual Windows systems develop little flaws that cause inexplicable difficulties for applications, especially ones that get deep into the kernel such as Avast presumably does. Avast is the best free AV by far and I hope that the suggestions made by others here bear fruit.

If it were my problem, I save my Avast config and then would completely uninstall Avast by running the latest avastclear.exe utility in Safe Mode. Then I would run a registry scan to see if any issues are thrown up, doing a precautionary System Save before proceeding with that registry scan/fix. Then I would reinstall using the latest offline Avast installer and if all is well reinstate the previously saved config.

In such cases I simply go back to one of my regulary created OS-Images that worked fine. Easier than loosing time by searching for reasons.
