I’ve done some reading around, so I wont bother repeating some things some things that weren’t covered here, but I need some help. I am visually disabled, I cannot (and I have to stress cannot, because I looked over a prior topic about the theme’s colors and the responses were… not nice) uses brighter colors. This means for instance, that my Windows OS scheme is changed so it has a black background, with white text. My Firefox browser uses the same set up, and for 99 percent of my browsing and computer use… this is just fine. However, the problem I have here is, Avast! does not respond well to the color scheme changes, the text turns white, but the white part of the GUI’s background areas… have not changed. This means it’s unreadable to me, and this is made worst by the fact I need to currently register the software for use.
The odd part is, the program almost seems to work at first, with the color scheme changes, for a split second, the white part, the background is black (I took a screenshot of this, if needed), but then it turns white on me. What am I supposed to do, here? I really want to use this program, I understand it’s not skinable, I don’t care about that per se. I just want some of the colors to be changed so I can properly use the program. The grey part of the interface is actually fine with me, I can see what I am doing and read it. Its the core part that’s white where I am having an issue.
Firstly, I didn’t mean to post that image twice, secondly, and maybe I wasn’t real clear… but I cannot register and update. My entire point has been, that aside from a split second when the screen looks like the images above, it looks like the image in this post. I cannot read the interface at all to use it, let alone to try and register and update it.
I could probably get my father to help, but the problem is, as seen in the white picture, is that the text conformed with my windows color scheme, so the text turned white. It’s entirely unreadable, I’d have to turn the color scheme off for something, and that’d make the entire thing unusable for me.
Also, I apologize if I sounded rude in my above post. If I wasn’t clear at what I wanted at all, it’s to wonder why (and what to do) in regards to why only part of the program adjusts for the color scheme, but the rest doesn’t.
Oh, whoops… I always forget to post my system information in tech help… um… I have Windows XP, Home I believe it is. I think my Avast! is version six, but I can’t be entirely sure on that anymore either, unfortunately. I’m not sure what else you’d need for information? Is there anything else?
When does this come out? Apologies if i am not supposed to ask, but I’m certainly curious as to when its coming out if it will support high contrast colors.
Okay, thanks, so in the meantime, I will need to get what I have working again. What would be the best way to do this? There’s an online registration form, I know, but when that’s filled out what’s the next step to get the program working again?
Well, if with “online” you mean the main GUI of Avast, you simply input the data and that’s it, as craigb said.
IF for any reason you have problems with that method, there is the “traditional” method at http://www.avast.com/en-us/registration-free-antivirus.php (for the Free edition) and you would receive the relevant info by email (and check the junk / trash main, just in case).
This is quite a bit later then I really have meant for it to be, so for that I apologize, and for the bumping bit. However, I wanted to thank everyone that responded for their help, tips and suggestions that allowed me to muddle through the registration process. Also thanks for notifying me that Avast 7 will support high contrast colors, I hope this works out and is the case, would be so much easier on me. Thanks again, everyone.
