halting on startup

I just recently installed avast! version 4.8 home edition, build 4.8.1169, xtreme toolkit version 1.9.4.0
on start-up it hangs on the setup, i am not behind a firewall
and i’m unable to end the process or uninstall the application
what can i do to remedy this problem?

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the latest avast! version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.

Also:

  1. Are you using the default folder to install?
  2. Any other antivirus in this computer? And in the past?

Hi, I just installed Avast (v4.8.1169).
I have ZoneAlarm (v7.0.470.000) already installed.
Now on my laptop i got this warning, on which I clicked yes.
I tried to install it on my pc (same versions), and strangly enough, I didn’t get this warning. Every time I try to shut down my pc, it just keeps restarting. What do i have to do to ‘get this warning’ or what do I have to configure to solve this problem?

What warning? Doesn’t the avast suddenly pop-up with some words about the avast and the zone alarm? If yes, what zone alarm are you using? ZA Pro or ZA free edition?
If your using ZA free edition you must edit something inside the avast.ini file.

The latest version is 4.8.1195, so I would suggest that you do a manual update, right click the avast ‘a’ icon, select Updating, Program Update.

No point trying to chase down a problem in an old version that might be resolved with the update.
