Hangs on 64-bit boot.

I just installed Avast! 4 on my Vista Ultimate x64 lappy (Asus W7s), and when I restart after installation it hangs on boot-up. All I see is my mouse pointer and a black screen. But when I boot-up in safe-mode, everything works fine. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Andrew

Did you schedule a boot time scanning after booting (I’m not sure it’s even available on x64 systems).
Do you have (or had in the past) any other antivirus in this same computer?

Booting on Safe Mode, is there any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially ‘Errors’ ?

Do you have the asus data security management (or something like that) application installed as there have been a few topics on the forums (try a search) and it relates to a bug in the asus data security management software that has an impact on avast. I don’t know if this is directly related to your problem but it is worth a forum search.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
This could cause a conflict at boot time.

In safe mode avast doesn’t start, so that may account for it being able to boot.
