I’ve been using Avast for as long as I can remember without any major issues but recently I’ve been noticing Avast using 100% of my HDD for about 30 minutes straight after logging in to the computer.
I’ve noticed that Avast have been doing background scans that I can’t stop nor disable with the right click menu, is there a way of disabling background scans or at the very least change it so it doesn’t use 100% of my disk access time? Because I don’t like having to wait 30 minutes after logging into my computer to be able to use it instead of the usual 3-5 minutes
- Which Avast…? (Free/Premium)
- Which version/build of Avast…?
- OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
- Other security related software installed…?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?
Free version 20.10.2442 (version 20.10.5824.626)
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (64bit)
I have malwarebytes on my drive but I haven’t ran it in a few months
I have not used any other AVs before Avast
- Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
- Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
- Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
- Reboot.
PS: Regarding Avast & Malwarebytes, see: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/200324-exclusions-for-avast-users/
According to Win10Pro 64b Task Manager, my HD Use has been pegged at around 100% by Avast Service>Antivirus 95% for most of several weeks, at the same time using variably 20 to 70% for CPU & Memory.
. This makes doing anything else very difficult, not to mention wearing out my hardware with grossly unneeded work load!
. Avast Premium TS # is busy, and the Forum has some complaints about this issue, but no usable answers, explanations, nor suggestions.
. 21.6.2474 (build 21.6.6446.683), UI: 1.0.660
