Strange, I have 2016 installed and do not even have a avast NG folder.
We have never really received an exact answer as we were seeing the NG directory under avast. We were told it was a feature that was never implemented, was scrapped, and does NOT exist in 2016. However, you are the first to bring the NG service to our attention.
So, we should ask again!
Anybody got any idea what the NG service is/was?
I know that if you uninstall, and use the avast! removal tool, it will no longer be there!

I had a vague notion it was supposed to replace SafeZone, or something…
I have the “Avast NG” folder. Nothing in it except “vbox” folder containing libcurl.dll.
I guess a leftover from 2015 then?
I did not have that folder under 2015.
Updated to 2016 and still don’t have it.
I read it had something to do with SafeZone, but also with command line things.
No clue what it is or supposed to be.
Really strange that some people have that folder under 2016 and others who have updated the same way don’t.
Perhaps even stranger…
Why would avast blocking something from avast?
That’s from the 2015 thread. Some comments about it being a ‘subscribed’ ‘project’ - I have no idea. Was it some kinda optional feature?
Avast might block it if it is no longer part of avast?
Avastclear didn’t remove Avast NG folder after uninstall of 2016 (tho it might, had I selected Avast program files folder [which doesn’t seem usually required]). Rejzor’s utility got rid of it. Manual delete would work, as well?
Avastclear does remove it after 2015 uninstall - or, maybe, uninstall did?
Still don’t know what it was there for, and guess I never will.
I also ran into the ironic issue of hardened mode blocking avast components after installation. I just added them to exclusions when prompted and all seems okay.
