HAS 2015 UPDATE BEEN FIXED YET?

Hi,

I’m trying to find out if anything has been done about problems caused by the update to AVAST 2015. I am using XP sp3, so the trouble I’m having can’t be caused by Microsoft. Since the “update” my system has gone dead twice, and the only way to get it moving again is punching the button, which has caused me to lose some work.

I’ve happily used AVAST for many years now, but can’t live with this. If it hasn’t been fixed yet, I want to UNinstall until it is. Thanks.

Uh, having terrible problems trying to decipher those verification letters . . . AND listening only gives me a loud ding. Trying letters again.

Read through this thread https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=160717.0

I have read many of those posts, and I already knew that AVAST and Windows updates had hit a snag. However, MS has nothing to do with my issue. I am using XP. XP is no longer supported, so I do not get updates. Also I have Windows updates blocked. Therefore those problems do not apply here, and I was having no problems with my computer or my system until AVAST updated to 2015.

Try a repair…Control Panel>Uninstall a Program>double click “avast”>click “repair”>reboot.

If that fails try a clean install…

Download and save the avast uninstall tool
Download and save your desired version…
Free
Pro
Avast Internet Security
Premier
Run uninstaller from above. You will be prompted to reboot into safe mode…click “yes”.
Reboot
Install choice from above.
Reboot and insert license or register.

Thank you for answering. Unfortunately, AVAST is not letting me download the UNinstaller. I’ll try getting it from the other computer.

You can copy the uninstaller onto a USB drive then transfer it to your problem
machine. Avast shouldn’t stop the download. You will get a hardened mode pop-up.
If you do click on “add to exclusions”.

Thanks. I got AVAST uninstalled, but of course, I’m afraid to reinstall until I know the problem has been fixed. Unfortunately, I had just installed AVAST on the other (Win7) machine and while I was trying to download the Uninstaller, Windows was trying to update. I had to shut that down and now I don’t know what else to do but UNinstall AVAST on that machine too.

Will there be an announcement on the forums when the problems are fixed, or . . . ?

I run XP spk 3 with Avast 2015 as other also do here who help in the forums without any issues. The problem with the recent Microsoft update only occured with windows 8.1 and KB3000850.

Your sistem might be suffering another problem that it is not related with the update since you also acknowledged that XP has no support by MS any longer.

So Para-Noid instruction to do a clean install is valid in your situation. The only way to know if your last Avast did not have something corrupted.

The problem with win 8.1 and Avast and KB3000850 has been resolved.

I am using XP. XP is no longer supported
That is not exactly true. MS is still supporting for businesses, (government) organizations and such. And even private users can still get updates if they want. Just enable WePos in the registry ;)

As has been mentioned the problem may not be related to avast (the update),
I suggest you follow these instructions:

Problem is most definitely AVAST related.Since I did the uninstall a few hours ago, I’ve had no problems. No system hangs, no downloading issues, no applications refusing to open.
I am unconcerned about the problems with Win8.

I will do another whole system backup and then wait a few days before reinstalling.

Thanks for answering my post.
