@Tech: OK i see i still didn’t quite understand you, you are talking about cloning here… I’m gonna have to get a bit technical then. ;D
BTW what is wrong with making a full image hdd backup(all of your 6 partitions) and storing it onto your external drive ? That way you will only have one image file to store. When you restore it back to your 250gb drive it will obviously restore all 6 partitions(and the MBR of course).
Don’t understand why you want to clone your 250GB HDD onto your 640GB one, yes of course it will delete the whole disk(and it always will) since it is a CLONE you are trying to make. Let me explain it to you… When you make a clone of your HDD it literally makes a clone of everything, what that means is that all the data from the hdd is copied into the clone INCLUDING the partition table layout. Do you see where i am going ? When you copy that clone to another HDD it will also re-arrange the partition table on that drive to be exactly the same as on the original source drive so that means it will destroy the previous partition table layout. It’s perfectly logical. That is why it is reffered to as a clone. It is an exact copy.
Also Acronis Disk Director has a disc cloning option, of course it has it. When did it not have it ? ???
@sded: I like Macrium but the last time i tried it, made a restore USB but it was based on some old linux core and it didn’t support my hdd’s properly(running AHCI mode here). I will give it another try though, maybe they improved the restore CD/USB…
The file could get corrupt. All the backup is lost.
Cloning is much more safe imho and personal experience.
What about a semi-clone then? ;D
I mean, the partition table shouldn’t be cloned.
I mean, clone but not delete the full contents of the destination driver.
See, I can do partition to partition and the result is the same.
Afraid that the backup image get’s corrupted AND the original files which are on 2 different hdd’s ??! lol sorry but this made me laugh… ;D You could make backups of your backup on a 3rd HDD i guess then lol ;D ;D ;D
Laugh? Did you lost everything once in your life? Yes, I’ve lost a full disk image… Had to reinstall everything, restore the files from other backups, it was a mess. It’s not for laugh but for crying.
Darth you’ve got a reply at EASEUS forum they’re wait for your respond and when you make a bootable CD does it have a PE plugin for the v2.0, because I’ve been told its linux-based boot disk(image) is not very good ???
Be very careful about Paragon Backup & Recovery 2010 Free Advanced because on Wilders Security Forum under Paragon Drive Backup Product Line many people having a lot of problems with this product.
Any way I having trouble to choose which product really do save my hairy @RSE ;D
Edit:- I’ll sit and wait for Darth Mikey after he done all the complete test and I’m sure he might recommend a free product IF I can trust him ;D GOD CRIKEY!
@Tech: Sorry to hear that. In all my years working with computers i’ve only once had a hdd die on me. Had alot of data on it and i could never get it back. Did not have it backed up unfortunately. I don’t know how your image files get corrupted though, care to explain ? Bad sectors or something ? No actually forget it, we are allready off-topic and will then get even more off-topic, we can discuss for a whole year on how to protect your pc from power surges, what kind of different methods there are for backing up, what strategies etc. This thread is about Easeus Todo…
@Speedy: I replied back, waiting for an answer now…
The recovery CD(actually i put it on my USB key) works just fine over here. You have my system specs bellow in my userbar. Yes it’s linux based but as i said it works fine.
The file can’t be opened and so restored. It was validated after being generated. CRC fails? Bad sectors in the USB drive? Who knows…
I don’t want, intentionally, say the name of the product as it should be an isolated episode and I don’t want to make FUD.
Just that I’ve tend to trust more in partitions backups than on image ones
I’m happy for you guys to discuss other different types of free backup software like Paragon Backup & Recovery 2010 Free Advanced and Macrium Reflect FREE Edition, as long as your willing to do a complete report just like what Darth Mikey about EASEUS Todo Backup Home v2.0 Free I guess it’s important that we can find the right free tool software for Home Users for peace of mind backup tool.
Edit:- Darth Mikey you’ve have a very short reply from EASEUS forum not much I guess ???
OK this is ridiculous. Now i can’t even boot into the recovery environment, yesterday it worked just fine. :
From their reply on the forum, they say i need to restore 1 partition at a time, this for me is an obvious design flaw and i am done with this program. They need to work on it more…
Speedy check out Macrium please, many users are saying good things about it and we have quite a few forum members using it aswell. True it doesn’t have incremental backups but from what i can tell it works as it should. Cannot say the same for Todo.
Me i’ve finally solved my weird Windows Backup problem so i will be using that for my backups. It’s actually quite good even though it isn’t very flexible but it will be fine for my needs.
A lot of other partitions tools. Until now, I do not find: a) how to run Macrium iso from there; b) a disk clone that does not clone the partition table also.
I’ve decided to choose Paragon Backup & Recovery 2010 Free Advanced a brand new free version http://www.paragon-software.com/home/db-express/ so far good in complete backup and I’ve also restored my backup, and works like magic no problem and no glitch…Phew!
Also you can create a bootable USB Flash drive - recover your PC on demand
I’m looking for something like that for my new win7 netbook as it doesn’t have a CD/DVD so it would need to have a bootable USB option to restore any back-up image. Though I believe Macrium Reflect is also able to do that, http://www.macrium.com/KB/KnowledgebaseArticle50025.aspx.
