having problem with auto updating of virus definitions...

when i connect my system to the internet using the “tethering” option from my andro the virus definitions doesn’t get automatically updated… ???..i have to use it manually…why is this happening…?
but when i connect to internet by using my phone as a dial up modem definitions get updated automatically…
i am using the free version of av…please help…

I have never used tethering, so does this actually use any sort of proxy (which I suspect it might) ?

Then you would have to incorporate that proxy into the avastUI, Settings, Update, Proxy Settings.

How exactly do you know that it is not automatically updating? Avast is not going to update every time you connect. It tries to update after booting and once every 4 hours it checks for available updates. But “checking” for updates doesn’t mean that there are always updates to be applied.

Avast GUI → maintenance → “last update attempt: ”.

That’s the last attempt, not necessarily the last actual update.

As long as it checks for available updates, then sometimes it will find them and apply them, and sometimes no update will be available.

I don’t know about proxy…but I am sure that when tethered the definitions doesn’t update but when connected as a dial up modem it does…how do I add the proxy manually to avast…?

You have to know A) if it uses a proxy and B) what that proxy is before you can set it up manually.

I don’t know if tethered to an Android phone would be considered a dial-up as you would have connected already before tethering ?

What do you have your avastUI, Settings, Update, (Update Parameters and Proxy Settings) set to (see image examples of mine) ?

With the proxy set to Dial-up I think it would be looking for a dial-up connection on your system.

ya…i had set the update parameter to “dial up”,i unchecked it and now i am able to…thank you very much…

No problem, glad I could help.

A belated welcome to the forums.
