has anyone used HD Tune if yes what do you think of it? Also does anyone know of any better Software like it?
Just Google for hdd benchmark software or hdd benchmark tool and you’ll find a lot of suggestions. I need to go back to my home computer to give some suggestions… If I remember, I’ll do it later.
I use HD Tach for benchmarking my disks. Never used HD Tune tough so i cannot comment on it sorry .
I use HD Tune. It doesn’t give me any problems. I don’t know how accurate it is. Sorry I can’t give you a better review.
Hard_ROCKER i looked into HD Tach but i think i will stay with HD Tune for now as it is free, while i look for a better one if there is.
Tech i’'ll try out what you said. any suggestions would be a great help and much appreciated, thats if you can remember ;D
rdmaloyjr thanks for the input, knowing that someone uses it with no problems made my mind up to download it.
HD Tach has been around for years and it is considered by many profesionals as the most accurate hdd benchmark utility. But it is only a hdd benchmark with no extra features(like SMART reading). So if you only need to benchmark your hdd’s it doesn’t get any more accurate than this. BTW the paid version also measures your write speeds. If you’re interested in a little more info about your hdd’s than use a program like HD Tune(just tried it myself and it’s really good). Since they’re both small programs it won’t hurt to have both installed
Perhaps you can find something in here aswell:

a little off-topic: What do you guys use for defragging ? I’m trying to find something free(and reliable) that will also defrag my pagefile and system files.
What do you guys use for defraggingI use Ashampoo's Magical Defrag 2. It isn't free but I got mine for less than $10.00 (Make an Offer)
I own quite a few of their products. ;D
Check out RejZoR’s Power Defragmenter at - RejZoRs - eXcessive-software.eu.tt Site, it is a GUI for the contig defragmentor, it is very fast and better still very free ;D
Blazing fast is more like it ! ;D It actually does a good job combined with pagedefrag . Has anyone tried any of these :

http://www.emro.nl/freeware/ (Gui for JKDefrag)
http://www.brothersoft.com/utilities/optimize_utilities/dg-defragmenter_38875.html (This one has HD Tune integrated!)
http://www.iobit.com/SmartDefrag/

http://www.majorgeeks.com/Diskeeper_Lite_d1207.html
http://www.majorgeeks.com/O&O_Defrag_2000_Freeware_Edition_d4545.html
All are free BTW
The power defragmenter and contig are great, there are times when I feel it is quicker to defrag a partition with PD than it is to analyse the partition with windows defrag ;D Best of all it is free ;D
Since I found RejZoR’s PD a couple of years now I believe, I haven’t used anything else. I used Diskeeper many years ago, I guess that has changed considerably since then.
I also use PageDefrag from the same author as contig, Mark Russinovich and a number of his other tools, Process Explorer, TCPView, etc.
Out of the ones i linked to i think i like this combo the most: JKDefrag + JKDefragGUI and PageDefrag.
I use sysinternals defrag of system files at boot time.
Then Iobit defrag (allows scheduling, multiply HDD, runs in background, etc.) and O&O Defrag (the old freeware version).
If you want to buy, well, O&O is the best imho.
Yes i like this Smart Defrag program seems very good ! And i also like Auslogic’s defrag aswell. But i still prefer JKDefrag for it’s flexibility Not to mention it’s open source and i love open source proggies ! ;D BTW IMHO this is the best commercial defrag 8) http://www.raxco.com/products/perfectdisk2k/
