Heaps of .sqm files

In my C drive i have heaps of .sqm files.
Cani delete them without it screwing up my computer?
They are called like sqmdata00.sqm and they go all the way up to sqmnoopt19.sqm
Any help?

.SQM files are created by “Windows Live Messenger” standing for “Service Quality Monitoring” data collection timer files and have a naming convention such as “sqmnoopt00.sqm”. There are some other applications that create these files, but this is the main one.

These files are NOT viruses/spyware, so you can sleep tight They can be found in the root folder of your HD and of course, the “Documents and settings/Application Data/Microsoft/MSN Messenger/” folder.

Deleting of these files is safe, but most likely after you reboot your computer and start Windows Live Messenger, they will reappear.

Solution to stop these files from being created again, you need to turn off the option in Windows Live Messenger. Go to Help menu, and then select Customer Experience Improvement Program. Put the checkmark under the I don’t want to participate right now and click OK.

Usually this is a registered applicationi type for SQM files as “Operation Flashpoint Mission” (Refer to link - http://www.filext.com/detaillist.php?ext… But in your case I suspect that you are Using Windows XP with Live Messenger! Am I right? These are some kind of a log files which MS people use to gather information on their beta versions. This may happen if you are using Windows Vista too. Don’t worry; you can remove them safely by deleing

The problem is that our friend Jamie didn’t come back yet to let us know if this solved his problem… maybe one day in Australia lasts for “normal” 4 days in Canada and US, and he is still at sleep, haha ;D Joke of course :wink: Maybe our friend tednelly “Peter the Potato Eater” knows something about it hihi…

I’m sorry I haven’t replied back, I forgot about this topic. I have trying to figure out how to remove my virus.
I did that and that worked thanks. ;D
