heavy file

hello
Avast works well ,
but I see that the file avast4\data\log is very heavy : 250 Mo (2006,2007,2008)
May I delete some or part of the files : debug11xxxx.log ??
And delete the files setup.log and debug.log ??
thanks

Yes, you can delete these files. You can clean them using avast Log Viewer.
Or, manually, disabling the avast self-defense module first and deleting the files from Windows Explorer.

hello
I have deleted the content of the 7 logs :information, advices, advises…using avast Log Viewer
but the file avast4\data\log is always there with 250 Mo

Which file exactly?

To have debug log files, debug11xxxx.log, etc. I assume that you have changed the logging level in the Program Settings, Logging ?

The default level is the Slider opposite the Notice logging level.

THE FILES

avast4\data\log\ debug1146520161.log 4097 Ko (80 FILES OF THESE KIND)
avast4\data\log\ setup.log debug11xxxx.log 20961 Ko ( 1 FILE)
avast4\data\log\ debug.log 3266 Ko ( 1 FILE)

to DAVIDR

on my logging panel
log file size limit =4097
the right arrow is on debug

Move it off debug to Notice or you will continue to generate these masses of files (you should only use this logging level if you are actually advised to if you are experiencing a problem).

to DavidR

I have changed : size limit 128 Ko and the Slider opposite the Notice logging level.

I will try to delete the files :

avast4\data\log\ debug1146520161.log 4097 Ko (80 FILES OF THESE KIND)
avast4\data\log\ setup.log debug11xxxx.log 20961 Ko ( 1 FILE)
avast4\data\log\ debug.log 3266 Ko ( 1 FILE)

it is not easy with Windows Explorer.
i can’t delete with avast protection disabled

The log files have size limit.
The debug (dump) file no.
You can manually delete all these files.
We already asked to Alwil a tool (feature) to housekeeping these files…

To temporarily disable the avast self defense module:

  1. Right click the ‘a’ blue icon on system tray.
  2. Programs settings > Troubleshooting (tab)
  3. Disable self defense module

THANKS I’ll TRY

GOOD NIGHT

Leave the other .log files.

You should only consider deleting the .mdmp files that are not current, last day or so on the creation/last modified date could I guess be deleted but they don’t represent a huge hard disk space issue.

Some files will have access denied (being used by the antivirus). But yes, you can delete all other files that you can.
