Hello again guyz

 God Bless us all

I’m back at last after a few months
i’ve got this problem right here…
malware is coming into my computer via flashdisks(FD)…
they alter the FD behaviour so that everytime you open it, it will go on the AUTOPLAY command to open the virus file INSIDE the FD

Now i’m administering a computer in my organization, and most of its member doesn’t understand anything bout IT, so is there anything can do to do some policy setting in the windows so that it won’t happen again
OR are there other ways/alternatives to cure these problems…
We’re using:

  • Pentium IV Ram 512 OS Windows XP Pr0 SP2
  • we’re actually using AVG antivirus 'coz avast can’t yet handle most of our local viruses here in indonesia…

HEEEELP ANYBODY???

Thanks b4… ;D ;D ;D

I have answered one of the three topics you created for this question.

another option to disable AUTORUN>>>

  1. Click Start > Run
  2. Type “gpedit.msc”
  3. Computer Configuration > Click “Administrative Templates” > Click “System” > Double-Click “Turn off Autoplay”
  4. Setting tab > Check “Enabled” > Select “All drives” from the drop down menu > Apply > Ok

There are 4 easy steps to making sure that Autoplay (Autorun) is disabled on all your drives including the USB. That would remove the ability of people to insert a USB drive and automatically run a .exe on your computer by using a *.inf file.

The last thing that you can do to protect yourself is to make sure that you have “Hide extensions for known file types”. This will help you from accidentally clicking on a file that is on a USB drive that looks like it is safe to look at, but is not really.

ie;… Win32:Sohanad-E-Unk [Wrm]
apart from dropping a “autorun.inf” in flash drives…it also creates “new folder.exe”/'boot.exe"…it looks like a folder…BUT it has .exe extension…if u click on it by mistake…u’ll get infected…even if autorun has been disabled
