Hello everyone, question about upgrading to avast! 5.0

I’m new to this board and I’ve never introduced myself. I’m PrincePhoenicis, nice to meetcha!

I’ve got a few questions I’d like to ask, and if I’m posting in the wrong board then can someone kindly move this topic to the correct one?

The thing is, I’ve only just recently heard about avast! 5.0 and am greatly considering upgrading to it but… first question do I have to uninstall then download avast! 5.0 again?

If so, I’ve another concern. You see I’ve like nine viruses/malware/trojans locked in the virus chest, two of which have infected the D: Drive. So the big question I have here, is it really safe to uninstall the current avast! without… er… un-quarantining these buggers or doing harm to my computer?

What exactly happens to the quarantined viruses/files if avast! is uninstalled?

Forgive my rookie-level knowledge on this matter. :frowning:

Install 5.0 over 4.8, that retains your current registration information, uninstalls 4.8 (including the removal of the avast chest files, they aren’t restored) and installs avast 5.0.

Ah, I see. So I don’t have to bother uninstalling my current one, just download and install the newer one and it’ll do it itself?
