Hello to All

Hello to all Forum Members, my name is 8_Ball.

Just reading some posts here & find some pretty interesting topix, along
with some good advice & linx.

I’m new to Avast, so I hope someone can answer a question for me.

I’m running Win 98SE & for the Web Shield Protection I keep getting popup
pages (on-line scanner message) from the bottom right every time I click a web page. I guess it scans the page, but is there anyway to disable this pop up?

I have right clicked the Avast icon, selected On-Action Protection, Web Shield
then Customize, & Advanced. I have tried both check & unchecked the Silent Mode
& Show Detailed Info boxes, but still get the On-Line Scanner Message.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thx in Advance.

Ok, I got it figured out, no more On-Line Access Message

Hi 8_Ball,

If you want to get your OS updated go and get the unofficial service pach for Windows 98 SE here: http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html
The updates for IE and Outlook you have to download yourself, even if you decide to use an alternate browser, like FF, Flock or Opera etc.
Welcome to the forums, and surf safe.

polonus

Thx for the linx polonus

Hi 8_Ball, welcome to the forums and the avast family.

Welcome to the forums, 8_ball.

Glad to know you solved your problem.

Thx for the Greetz folks, I can see this forum is somewhat like mine…
Nobody does any flaming about another member or uses cuss words.

This is good, as I have been a member on many forums only to have the above
happen on a constant basis.

There were about 6 of us that met on the first forum & we hit it off good, we
also moved around together from all these forums & finally said, lets just make
our own private forum with just a few people that we trust, so we did & have
been going strong since July-03. We trimmed the fat during this time & ended
up having members that are the cream of the crop, all are highly experienced
in various fields of…well, use your imagination ::slight_smile:

Sorry about that DavidR, I didn't see any box for changing it to this size. It has been changed. Thx for the info & avatar resize.

Thx CharleyO, I will drop in when I can, & as for help that is not a problem as there really is nothing "We" (at my forum) can't do. Now I don't need members PMing me or constant questions on how to do this & that. I will post info on things that may help some members. Here is a tip for Zonealarm.
e warned that ZA phones home every session.
Always have a Registry backup before altering anything in the Registry.

Close ZoneAlarm.
Open up your registry editor.
Go to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Zone Labs/ZoneAlarm

In the right pane, you will see CfgMain, double click that.
Use your keyboard's arrow keys to downwards until you reached 0028.
On line #6 (0028), press the right arrow key 5 times, then hit Backspace.
After you are done the step above, type 00 on your keyboard.
Then click OK.
REBOOT for it to take effect.

Restart ZoneAlarm...No more "ZA Phone Home.

Thanks for the ZA tip, 8_Ball!

Many here, including me, use ZA and that can be of great help.

No problem, you weren’t likely to know, whilst there is a mention of size in the forum ‘Policy’ button.

# do not use large pictures in signatures or avatars (mind other users who might have weaker connection and smaller display resolution)
There is no hard and fast size given, but over time we have tried to stay around the 100 X 100 size.
