Help a newbie please!

I just installed Avast! 4.xHome and it scanned files and said "C"Program File: such and such WinToolssuch and such is infected by Win 32:Trojan-gen. {other}
Then gives me lots of options like delete, delete all, move, move all, repair, repair all, etc. I want to delete the virus, but not the file. I want to repair the file.My 16 year old has been the computer tech around here for the last 9 or 10 years. I’m just trying to fly solo for the first time today while he’s in school and here I am already confused ??? Can some one help me quick before he gets home and starts laughing at his mom again? ::slight_smile:
Thanks,

Patty

Antiviruses can repair only infected files (coused by file infector viruses). In these days you won’t fouund any of such.
Worms and trojans can be only deleted since their entire code is just malware and nothing else. There is nothing to be Repaired.
If you have problems deleting it select Move to Chest or use Boot-Time scan (located in Simple Interface in dropdown menu (Win2000/Xp only).

Let me guess… These files are infected:
\program files\common files\wintools\wsup.exe
\program files\common files\wintools\wtoolsa.exe
\program files\common files\wintools\wtoolss.exe

Avast is correctly identifying them as malware. WinTools = malware.

Thanks, Guys, for answering so quickly and helping me out! You were right, Eddy. One of those was my infected file. Avast deleted the virus without any problems and everything else scanned out A-okay. So far I am very happy with this program. I am very relieved to finally have my computer friend immunized again, and hope he is now going to return to good health. :wink:
