i have downloaded a free home version of avast for 1 year. what I want to know is : Will my computer with a free version of avast be less protected from viruses than it would be with a paid version of avast (or any other anti-virus)?

lol me, im using avast free edition and it works fine .
It depends what type of job doing in internet…
avast! Free is already the same level as those of the other paid antivirus so all I could say is you are not less protected, you are protected enough. Pro gives a more protected and IS for an even more protected.
