Help! Avast 7 BSOD on startup

Hi,

Yesterday everything was fine, today I get a BSOD: “No more IRP stack locations” 2 seconds after Windows Login Screen appears.

Went into safe mode, uninstalled avast and everything came back to normal. Tried installing Avast again and got the same results (this time instantly after avast tries to execute for the first time during the installation process).

I have W7 64 bit and if it even helps, I have dual booting with linux (as the only rare thing I have).

Last thing I have installed before this happened for the first time, was Lavasoft AdAware (which came with an antivirus plus I didn’t reboot as asked after installation until today’s bootup). Of course I first uninstalled AdAware but this was still happening until uninstalling Avast.

Can’t say if that could have been the real reason.

Thanks in advance!

So what AV are you using right now ?

" No more IRP stack locations " May be related with the installation of three or more security programas at the same time and the driver filter can not handdle the load.

Very important to remove all remains of other AVs installed before Avast. Use this site to execute uninstall utilities for other AVs.

To Install Avast! from scratch.

Download and save to your desktop aswclear : http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility

Download and save a fresh copy of Avast!. Be sure to have your lincense handy if running a paid version:

http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe

Use aswclear in safe mode once for Avast! 7 and any other Avast! you may have had before. Reboot after each uninstall.

Reinstall fresh copy of Avast!

You can also send the latest minidump to Avast! to find the cause of the BSOD. Compress it with ZIP, RAR or 7Zip and give it an original name. It will also be a good idea to include a text ( use notepad ) with your e-mail and URL of this post.

Upload the minidump to ftp://ftp.avast.com. Use IE for this and follow instructions.

Or Start > Run > " explorer ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming " copy/paste without quotes. Drag dump file into the ftb window.

Thank you very much, I will try that out!

Didn’t work :frowning:

first of all, Lavasoft Ad-Aware tools is not listed on the cleaners site
second, I did run through the avast cleaners
reinstalling avast just keeps sending me a BSOD.

I guess I won’t use any av for now. and too lazy to send the minidump…

thanks, until my next format c ! :stuck_out_tongue:

I have found some adaware’s registry entries and moaning files… perhaps when my lazyness goes away I’ll try again after deleting those manually
