Help Avast App - could not complete installon Verizon GNex JB

Hello Thanks for helping.
I just tried installing Avast on my GNex through the store.
Followed the install prompts I was setting up Theft Recovery with Admin privileges I believe.
Gave a Name and Set 4 digit Password.
At Prompt to add Recovery Phone Number I wasn’t sure what it meant so searched the web for info on PC.
Went back to App and tried to enter Phone Number for SMS message and all I get is “PIN Recovery Not Set” !
It will only accept 4 digits not a phone number. At least the popup window I get.
Created acct on my.avast.com but gets me nowhere.
Tried Uninstalling app and re-installing but just get the “Enter Avast! PIN” popup window again.
I’m Stock, Not Rooted.
I will NOT do a Factory Reset to fix this.
What is the solution?
Thank you.

PS
Your classic website does not work with Chrome. reCaptcha not visable. I had to load as IE page for it to work.
Your https website has non secure items as well and get warning in address bar.

Hi,

the prompt you have seen was for PIN with only an information that your Recovery Phone Number is not set. To set it, go to Settings (at least in AMS) and look for the Recovery Phone Number there. It will allow you to set it if you enter you PIN correctly.

Thank you.
Well, after several tries the App finally accepted my password. I had logged password in my KeePass database so I didn’t forget it.
But, I think you have a Bug on the Password Screen.
What was happening is, window opens, I quickly entered my 4 digit password and immediately hit the OK button. At the speed one would normally text at. This just cycled back to the password log in screen.
After trying numerous times I finally clicked in the box just to the right of the word “Digits” (but the cursor stayed at left of box), entered password, and App opens. No need to hit the OK button.
If you activate Login screen and simply enter password without first clicking to the right of the word “Digits” the app does not accept password.
I think this is not the cleanest way to access the App. I consider this a Bug.

If I don’t need the Anti Theft feature do I do nothing or do I need to uninstall it?

Thank you

Hi,

the password dialog works fine on all our galaxy nexuses that we have here. When it pops up, the text field should be focused, so you can just start typing your password. When you type it, it automatically validates it and lets you in, you don’t have to press the OK button. The button is there as a fallback in case the automatic verification doesn’t work for some reason. However, it still works/should work as expected. I’m afraid I wasn’t able to reproduce that bug you are experiencing.

Also the automatic verification should work when you paste the password from the clipboard (like when using KeePass).

Could you try to explain the bug one more time, step by step?

Thanks,

Ondra

OK
Swipe notification, click on Avast! Mobile Security, Click on Avast! Mobile Security, Password Dialog Opens.
Looks like this with cursor on left.

Now, if you do Nothing else and simply type in Password you get this:

The fact that I could capture the screen shot at that point shows the Dialog Box doesn’t work properly.

On my Verizon Gnex Jelly Bean when Dialog Box opens I must first click to the right of the word Digits, then type Password. App imediatelly Opens without hitting OK button.

I also think you have a SERIOUS Battery PROBLEM.
After installing your App I left my phone plugged in and sleeping as normal.
Battery went to 0 (ZERO). This has never happened since I’ve owned the phone.
Normally when I wake up and unplug charges phone battery is above 95 percent.
This morning it was ZERO. Actually, phone was shut off.
Why is this?

I really can’t afford to be spending so much time dealing with an App that’s not ready for prime time.
I think I will need instructions on how to Completly UnInstall this App.
I have not set up the “Friend” recovery phone number yet and let the Anti Theft create the “Contact Explorer” App if i’m not mistaken.
So, I believe I may need to complete the Anti-Theft installation so I can do a complete successful uninstall, correct?
Thank you.
Correct me if I’m mistaken on anything.

Are you sure it was AMS? Because I have never seen a confirmed 95% battery usage.

You can use uninstallation wizard from AMS Settings to uninstall Anti-Theft, then you uninstall AMS as a usual application.

OK Thank you.
I’m fairly certain AMS caused the battery drain but I’m not android savvy enough to know for sure.

Hi,

it’s not that hard. Just go into your device Settings and you will find a “Battery” section there. If AMS or AAT are consuming a lot of battery, you will find it there.
