HELP - avast! not allowing me to browse the internet?

I know I saw a similar post here but mine may be different…

Anyways - I have 2 of the same exact laptop.

one was running symantec av trial one had no av installed.

I installed avast on the one that had no av on it yet and everything went smooth - all is good.

UnInstalled symantec AV off the other one and installed avast!

Install went fine - I can connect to the internet and ping the verizon dns so my connection is good but as soon as I open a browser (any browser - IE, FF or Chrome) it says I have NO connection. (the browser says that)

I check to make sure all the settings are the same on both computers and they are.

I disable (“terminate”) webshield and MAGIC! I can browse the web again!

BUT - I would obviously rather be able to keep the webshield running.

Give me some answers please - maybe I shoulda left symantec running on that one and just re-upped the subscription?

Try running this program, you may have leftovers from norton
http://www.techspot.com/downloads/1437-norton-removal-tool-symnrt.html

Norton can be a real pig to remove, harder than some viruses. Even when uninstalled it often leaves remnants behind that can conflict with your new AV. So run the norton removal tool and reboot.

Hopefully that will be enough to resolve any problems, however, avast may not have fully installed due to the presence of the remnants, so you may need to reinstall avast.

You know I often wonder (being a suspicious sod), if this isn’t what they hope might happen, going back to what you had because of problems with your new AV.

all is good now guys!

thanks for your help! ;D

No problem, welcome to the forums.
