Help Avast won't install

Hi, so i downloaded avast free from your web page (cnet) tried to install but it fails every time.

This is a clean install with no prior anti-virus, I’m running win 7 64 sp1, all the latest updates, latest versions of java both 64 nd 32bit.
I disabled windows defender and windows firewall.

when i try to install the avast screen comes up, the effect starts spinning, it disappears from the screen and then creates an icon on my desktop of avast with a lock symbol on it.

any assistance would be appreciated thank you.

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

ok tried that and didn’t make any difference, the avastclear.exe also left registry entries and the hidden files in C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software that i manually removed before the install.

all that happens when i run the avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe is a effect for about 10 seconds, then it creates a duplicate avast item with a lock symbol and a last.dump file.

I suggest to run Farbar and attach the logs to your next post.
Let’s see if we can find something that is causing the problem.

Can you send me whole c:\ProgramData\Avast folder compressed after unsuccessful installation? I would like to find a problem and fix it.

Thanks,
pm

It looks like you have a problem with Visual C.
I suggest to download and install the latest version and than try again to install avast.

ok thank you.

Hi Paul!

Do you know, that you need to be online during the whole install of avast?
=Snake=

yes and i am.

edit >>> i’ve reinstalled visual c from that link, installed, run the avast cleaner in safe mode, removed all traces of avast, tried to install again and the same problem persists. before i formatted my pc avast was running fine, really confusing.

Hi paul_braid,
our setup crashes in your environment. It seem to be caused by bfLLR.dll which is probably part of your network driver and attempts to inject into our process (don’t know why). Please, try to update your drivers or remove this utility (more info about it here http://www.processlibrary.com/en/directory/files/bfllr/437834/).

Thanks,

Uninstalled the driver/software and thats done the job, installed first time. thank you so very much.

I know this thread is old, but in case anyone else is having this problem:

I can confirm that that the “Killer NIC” software that comes with the Asrock " Fatal1ty X99X Killer" motherboard (and probably many others) can interfere with Avast! updates.

Luckily there’s an easy fix: Launch the application called “Killer Network Manager”, and uncheck “Enable Bandwidth Control”, click “Apply Settings”. Avast should update just fine after this.

Edit: To be clear - the Bandwidth Control feature causes problems with both Avast updates and Avast Online installs.

Thank you for the information.

i have the same problem avast doesn’t wan’t to install online and when i install it offline it doesn’t wan’t to update, but this is only for my home wifi which is fully connected to internet but can’t update avast but when i tether wifi with my smartphone avast update juste fine, i really want to fix this problem with my home wifi wich i spend most of the time, thanks

B"H I have tried a few times to install Avast and am about to uninstall the Avast installation tool for a clean resinstall and am sending the log so that you might please if possible be able to let me know why it’s not installing and if it’s realistic. i have read that it is compatible with Windows XP and that Windows XP is highly susceptible to internet crime and viruses without protection, and all the more so as it’s no longer supported by Microsoft or Chrome. Thanks.

@ alibarakate,
Check your Firewall. This sounds like you are blocking part of Avast from connecting.

Hi Bob, check the date, I doubt he’ll answer.
