help, cannot select scan level...

HI
I have Home edt. v.4.5 (free), just installed as secondary (to scan on demand d/l files, not full time protection) antivirus.
My system:
Dell XPS 3.4 Ghz HT, 1 Gb DDR RAM … WIN XP HOME SP2

Problem:
For some reason cannot use “Select scan level” - default is medium, and cannot select “Scan archive files”.
Is there any way to enable those features?!

On my old PC I have Avast home edt. v4.1 (free) which configured the same way (secondary antivirus), AND have all those (mentioned above) features enabled.

What should I do - install 4.1 or fix 4.5?
Open for suggestions, any help appreciated
Thanks.

P.S. Primary AV is NORTON with all utilities (the reason to have norton as primary). On old PC all installed the same way without any incompability issues between each AV = Also secondary is AVG 7.0.

I’m almost sure there is being some incompatibility into Norton and AVG (even like secondary, not residents) and avast. Or, on contrary, avast (as secondary) and one of the others like main.

For secondary (backup, non-resident) antivirus, I suggest BitDefender Free and AntiVir (free). Both of them works perfectly with avast at main one. Otherwise, there are known problems with Norton and AVG

just repeating
on old pc i have the same configuration - norton as primary and Avast and AVG as secondary - works as a charm - no conflicts whatsoever.
So the problem still stands
Thanks for the reply anyway.

P.S. Tried AntiVIr but it could not be installed on my system, and later uninstalled correctly. And, do not advise ppl to have antivir on win98/me. My winme crashed with antivir, and it took from me 4 hours to cleanup the whole mess…

avast conflicts with AVG 6.0 (free) in a Windows XP system. Maybe it works in 98.
Version 7.0 conflicts in some XP systems…

You say it’s an on old pc that it works…
If the new you have XP, you will have trouble.
Different configurations can’t be compared.
I have no trouble with uninstalling AntiVir when I need

thanks for info “avast conflicts with AVG 6.0 (free) in a Windows XP system”, maybe that is an answer?!
Any more suggestions?

I forgot: F-Prot for DOS.
I have an automatic feature to download updates for it (oh, and for AntiVir too ;))

technical
basicly u said that if I remove AVG and put avast there should be no problems? I mean theoretically?
I just like Norton Utilities things and especially GoBack safe mode. I know that norton utilities not compatible with other than NAV antiviruses (I tried before).
Is there any incompability of Avast with Kaspersky, PC-cillin, Ad-aware, SPybot S&D, or Panda.
Please repply.
Thanks for any help

just an update
Uninstalled AVG 7.0 and installed Avast 4.5.
No changes - still as mentioned in original thread, I cannot change sensitivity = “Select scan level” or select “Scan archive files”.
Will roll back changes = uninstall Avast and install AVG till someone would provide other options.
Thanks for advice Technical. Did not work.
Anybody else
Any suggestions deeply appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help

I heard that avast is a great AV, and will try to fix my problem.

My experience (and Bob3160) is different.
I use Norton SystemWorks (except NAV), GoBack and avast. No trouble.
I never even tried to use NAV and avast in the same systems. There are tons of problems… One of them could be yours…
Again, no troubles with other antivirus then NAV while using Norton Systemworks (including Norton Utilities).

Did you update your skins?

Well
I guess I am dunno, noob etc
I made the last attempt and it works.
What I did not do is to select scan removable media, and then a small window pop up on top of interface, where all mentioned changes can be made. And, as long as, removable media selected there is no change in settings.
Just wants to say this:
THERE IS NO INCOMPABILITY ISSUES WITH NORTON AV, AS LONG AS NORTON IS THE ONLY ONE PRIMARY.
Thanks for your help and patience.
Just one more old question:
Is there any incompability of Avast with Kaspersky, PC-cillin, Ad-aware, SPybot S&D, or Panda (as someone mentioned there is no perfect AV out there).
Any or no response appreciated.

P.S. For future development it would be nice to omit selecting removable media in order to change sensitivity configuration.

Thanks again

Compatibility of avast with:

a) Kaspersky: is an antivirus, follows the general rules: two residents will conflict.
b) PC-cillin: is an antivirus, follows the general rules: two residents will conflict.
c) Ad-aware: no trouble. It’s not an antivirus. The resident (ad-watch) won’t conflict.
d) SPybot S&D: no trouble. It’s not an antivirus. The resident (tea timer) won’t conflict.
e) Panda: does not encrypt their signature files. Will be detected as false alarms by other antivirus. (as someone mentioned there is no perfect AV out there).
