help! can't log in into internet!

:frowning: :-[ :-\ :‘( :’(

anyone? anyone?

just install avast! 4.1…recommended highly by a friend.

now i can’t even log in. i reach as far as keying my particulars and then the whole thing hang.

probably because i ignored the warning that avast might cause conflict with norton antivirus (tried to uninstall norton…but gave up cos with norton, it wasn’t one of those straightforward uninstallment)

anyway, could anyone tell me what to do?

ps. the writer of this post is not the one having the problem…it is someone else, off course. ;D

pps. he is using windows xp…if it means anything.

thanks all.

uninstall either avast or norton from Windows Safe Mode (accessible by pressing the F8 key on Windows startup - just before the first progress bar appers).

thanks dude…for the speedy reply. problem solved.

u’ve got yourself one happy camper.

only thing is she had to uninstall avast!.

actually…that friend of mine would rather use avast than the trial norton antivirus that she has (came with the purchase of her pc) but she couldn’t seem to locate/find the program on her control panel when she opened the add or remove program. could it be because it is under a different name? symantec maybe?

thanks.

Well, infact to get rid of Norton is quite an exercise.
See e.g. http://www.avast.com/forum/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=1066;start=msg5749#msg5749 for more…

Grettings to your friend.
Vlk

thanks a mill.

great support…even better product.

Remember Vlk, I´m a expert on getting rid from Norton. But you never recognize my efforts :-\

Your solution is not complete. Will leave Registry keys behind…
Unfortunatelly, it´s necessary to look at some other foruns: Norton & avast!

Good luck troll. If you need more help, just let us know

I do. It’s just that I started forum search and this topic was the first I found… so I put a link to this one.

Thanks for your time Technical.

Thanks Vlk… Just a help on get rid from Norton

VLK, Technical…

You guys are sometimes in such competition! :stuck_out_tongue:

Technical…Yes, you seem to know Norton well, and have always been timely in providing assistance to the forum.

VLK…You have always been one of the backbones of the forum with first rate advice, and some indepth information.

CREDIT IS DUE…AND CREDIT HAS NOW BEEN GIVEN TO YOU BOTH!

troll,

Symantec does make a NAV Removal Tool which you can download free from www.symantec.com
Norton is more or less “hard coded” into the system, so traditional uninstall procedures are not effective.
Anyway, VLK AND Technical have helped you out of your dilemma.

I also welcome you to the forum.

 Techie

Imposible! He’s much much better than I. He’s a technician and I’m just a beginner… ;D

Or rather: I’m the author and Technical is a hacker (in the good sense of the word) - like you, techie…

End of thread.
