System Restore doesn’t work and command prompt wouldn’t work either when i typed command in run. I looked up the command prompt thing and did this
cd\windows\repair
copy autoexec.nt c:\windows\system32
copy config.nt c:\windows\system32 because it was supposedly supposed to repair command prompt but now command prompt freezes. I need help! I can’t use system restore either it says restore incomplete! Is my computer in danger?
I did this
cd\windows\repair
copy autoexec.nt c:\windows\system32
copy config.nt c:\windows\system32
twice and it said something about overwriting so i said yes…
Please help is my computer messed up badly and how can i fix it?
If your computer is really messed up so badly probably its better do make a clean installation… :-\
What exactly was your problem? Why did you want do do a system restore in your first post?
Overinstallation can solve the problem and you won’t lose your programs, settings, data, files, etc.
Just choose ‘Repair’ installation of Windows and install ‘over’ the old installation.

Looking at some of your previous posts, you seem to have lot’s of problems with your system.
What are you doing that’s causing this?
When i installed Windows XP Service Pack 3 i got an error message. It said like access denied or something. I didn’t notice these two problems until this week. I just noticed command prompt and system recovery don’t work. Is there anyway to fix this? I don’t know how to do a clean install without purchasing a windows xp installation disk. Can someone please post the steps for me if that is the only way? Thanks any help is appreciated.
I don't know how to do a clean install without purchasing a windows xp installation disk.Legally, I don't either.
Does anyone know another way to solve this?
I have like a system recovery disk that came with my computer is reinstalling windows xp what its for?
Windows was preinstalled on my computer so what do i do?
The recovery Discs will restore your system to the state that the system was in when you first received it.
The recovery Discs will restore your system to the state that the system was in when you first received it.
So in other words the recovery discs should work?
I think i tried the discs before and didn’t know what to do so i ended up doing a restore in safemode and it worked.
there has to be an easier way to fix command prompt and the system recovery.
Hi :
Since this started after installing XP SP3, I recommend you ask the certified,
Volunteer “Microsoft Most Valuable Professional(s)” on the Support Forums at
http://aumha.net where there is a “XP SP3:Repair Windows Installer Errors”
Sticky .
Would also recommend you look through the Aumha “Topics” at
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=83 .
Thanks how big is this problem?
at first i got a message like this C:\WINDOWS\system32\command.com
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose Close to terminate the application. But then i did this because on another forum said to do it:
Click Start, Run, type cmd and press enter to open the MS-DOS window.
In the MS-DOS Window, type the below commands.
cd\windows\repair
copy autoexec.nt c:\windows\system32
copy config.nt c:\windows\system32
Once the above two files have been copied, type “exit” to exit the MS-DOS window.
I messed up the first time i think because i didn’t type exit which he said too. Now command prompt freezes. It said something about overwriting the files.
If i take it to be repaired on Monday how long do you think it would take a professional computer repair person to fix?

3-5 hours I can put and configure a system back (if I have backups).
