This has been happening on and off for months and it’s getting quite irritating.
Basically, when I launch Age of Empires 3, nothing happens. If I look at the processes in Task Manager, I see AvastUI.exe and rundll32.exe using massive amounts of the CPU (I imagine this is simply avast! scanning the file).
Now, this is frustrating because I just added the game folder to the global Exclusions list. I also added it to the File System Shield exclusion list (with all 3 check marks) to be thorough.
I launched the game yesterday and it worked perfectly. AvastUI.exe wasn’t using the CPU and the game loaded the first try.
However, I just loaded the game again and, wouldn’t you know it, AvastUI.exe is once again using massive amounts of the CPU and the game doesn’t load. If I execute the game again, it will start, but AvastUI.exe continues to hog the CPU and the game stutters while I play.
Is there any way I can get this exclusion to stick? What could be going wrong here?
Avast Free Vesion 11.1.2253…
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit SP1…
Comodo Firewall…
None. I’ve been a devout avast! user for 8 years. This problem has me stumped.
I’m having pretty much the same issue with Blade and Soul. I contacted their support and did numerous diagnostics… a hijackthis log, systemchecks log from their game and a diagnostics sent to them…they told me it was my antivirus causing the issue. I added it to the exclusions and it still causes issues. …sounds exactly like what the OP posted… any help on this? I can’t figure out how to play my game because of this antivirus…and I’ve been using it for a few years and never had this problem until a few days ago.
