Can somebody please help? I have Avast Internet Security (paid for) and I am getting the message that the Avast module is not working. I’ve tried the ‘Fix now’ button several times, it does ask for my permission to continue. The summary button tells me that my system is unsecured, I can’t get any
thing to switch on. I tried my usual weekly scan and I have the message: Unable to start scan. There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper???
What’s happened? Please can someone help as I don’t want to have to telephone the Czech Republic from the UK.
For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
Thanks, Logos but Avast hasn’t repaired itself, checked my details in case the licence had run out etc. but that’s not until May. I still have my download link and licence details for that reason, will try the other suggestion now.
No. Neither the “fix it”. In some few situations, the reboot won’t be needed. In most situations (where a “problem” is really there) you need to reboot.
The reboot sometimes is needed for items that are part of the initial process of Windows booting. Sometimes there are alternative methods, but usually a reboot is much simpler to explain in the forum and faster to apply. Sometimes there is a need to update, which is also done after a reboot. Sometimes, there is problem with some file not being “released”, so it can’t be changed / updated until a reboot. Sometimes there is an issue with the display (either with the UI of avast, display drivers and so on).
Hence, in the vast majority of cases, when the user already says he is not seeing any change after these type of actions, first reboot, and then wait about 10 minutes (after the reboot) for all the boot processes to finish (including avast rootkit scan and automatic updates).
Instead of investigating which of all possible situations is making problems, reboot and then it is possible to narrow down the problem (if it even continues to exist).
no need to type in red : … and don’t confuse the MS “fix it” stuff with Avast installer … also, depending on what’s repaired or what components are added/removed, this very same installer will prompt you to reboot or not… okay no need to write an essay about that … okay?
The red “no” was for readers to find the short answer easy. About confusing those 2 different actions, I’m not, but the need to reboot is the same in both cases. About some essay, it was to support my statement. Otherwise, it’s easy to say whatever without explanation and the user don’t know which one of the (opposite) suggestions to follow. I previously wrote the short action in just one simple sentence (no essay): reboot after any of those actions, and only then check the consequences.
BTW, in many (but not all) cases there is no need to uninstall first. Just running the latest stable version of the adequate setup.exe over the current (not working) installation and rebooting will effectively solve the problem, while keeping most of the user’s settings. After the reboot, let avast update (and if more problems are find, more optional steps can follow).
