HELP! HELP! HELP! PLEASE! HELP! PLEASE!

Please help! I have major issues with my labtop… I have a virus (not sure which one) and I don’t know what to do. :o ???

First, I have one question that I am DYING to know the answer too: If I do a System Reinstallation will that get rid of ALL viruses? By that I mean, is it possible that I could that and STILL have a virus on my computer or is the impossible and the problem, therfore has to be something else!!!

Can some PLEEEEEAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSEEE answer that question first for me?! I’m going crazy!! :o

Why you ask?.. :-[

Because I DID a system Reinstallation, which was adviced to me by the Dell Technicians in the Hardware department ( I know, first mistake, lol) . Now, my labtop seems more "F*** U*** than it was before! Not only does the Virus appear to NOT be gone, but I am also have trouble downloading my network Drivers back onto my computer (Specifically the Broadcom Integrated Controller. It unzips on my PC starts running and then just sort of stops in the middle of running… no error… no nothing… but it is NOT completing the set up). They PROMISED me that if I did a System Reinstallation it would get rid of my virus, but I think they’re wrong because things still are not right. The symptoms of my virus are as follows:
-Touchpad is freezes up at times (but keyboard still works)
-Touchpad runs across my computer screen at random, opening and closing a whole bunch of applications
-Touchpad stops working in that, it will STILL move, but when I click on anything, nothing responds.
-BEFORE I did the system reinstallation, I was having internet problems too. Like it wouldn’t connect (I think this is still the issue why I cannot get the Network Drivers to download).

I’ve been on the phone with them for HOURS. >:( :frowning: I NEED ANSWERS!! They keep giving me the run around and I don’t know where to turn… They are blaming the drivers, but I don’t think they know. Can anyone HELP me explain this please! What the hell is going on!? Is this fixable? ??? :stuck_out_tongue: :-[ :-\

  1. How do you know you have a virus, what detected it ?
What was it called, what was the file name and location of the virus ?

  2. A repair Re-installation is unlikely to remove virus infection as it doesn’t remove data or other non-operating system files. If however, you did a format and re-installation that should clear virus infection, but that is a very severe option. As you say if the virus still appears to be there, re-installation clearly didn’t remove it as I doubted it would.

In your other topic, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=33315.msg277997#msg277997, you mention when you use mcafee, do you also have avast installed ?

Having two resident scanners installed is not recommended as rather than provide twice the protection it can cause conflicts that could leave you more vulnerable.

What other security (anti-spyware, etc.) applications have you run ?

 Hi “Moneygirl” :

On Feb 14, you said you had McAfee ; therefore, you should be asking for
help on THEIR Support Forums at http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/index.php .

If your computer is still under Warranty, I recommend you take it to the place
you bought it and let them unravel your “mess” .

#1) No I don’t have macafee anymore

#2) When I did, it did not detect a virus

#3) I did an re-install becasue those idiots at Dell Told me too. My computer is virtually naked right now and I no major software downloaded on it.

#4) What should I do/run to get this issue resolved?

I see you mentioned that a re-installation would not work, but a reformat would? How can I do that?
