I was using the latest version of Avast 2016 and planning to upgrade to 2017 after some of the bugs are fixed.
Unfortunately, I was in the settings and accidentally hit the update program button and now it’s asking me to reboot. Is there any way to cancel the update without messing up my current Avast installation? Or will I have to uninstall 2017 and reinstall 2016? Anyone have a link to previous versions?
You can abort the update and undo all changes, but that will be quiet a hassle.
Just let the update finish en roll back to a restore point before the update is likely the most easiest way to go.
Ugh, might as well uninstall and reinstall it then, I don’t trust system restore after a couple of mishaps. Is it possible to download a previous version from Avast?
Be aware that after you install this old version, it’ll again try to update itself to new version, because it’s designed to always stay fully up to date. I suggest you disconnect your PC from internet until you change the way avast! updates.
You’ll have to go to Settings → Update → Program → Settings dropdown menu → Here, select “Ask when update is downloaded”.
This way avast! will ask you first before updating. However, there might be cases where avast! will still override this, because they changed the infrastructure and they have to force update old, outdated clients in order to keep users protected.
May I ask what bugs are you experiencing with the new version?
A couple off the top of my head before I hit the sack, smart scans show as cancelled at 92% in the popup window but when I open the main GUI it says it is completed. If I set a Full Scan scheduled scan, the GUI shows a completely different time than the one I set.
By the way RejZoR, do you have another safe source? I downloaded the offline installer from the link you gave me of version 2280, disabled my internet then went to install it and it was the new 2017 version!
Just search for the Avast free version and you’ll get a link to download the latest installer. But if you click on the actual name you’ll go the main Avast free description page. Click on the button there to display a large selection of older installer versions too.
You need to be offline BEFORE you start the installer. avast! has a feature in installers which check for latest version and download it if current installer found to be older, to prevent users from installing old, outdated versions.
